Hello and welcome to episode 33 of Webflail, the podcast dedicated to uncovering the greatest failures behind the greatest Webflowers. Because success often comes after learning from many failures.

I’m your host, Jack Redley, a failure connoisseur and today, and today my guest is Carter Ogunsola.

He is a 22 year old independent digital designer and developer based in Utah. With 3 Awwwards website and 1 CSS Design award and my feature on Muzli to his name. He’s an Adjunct Professor in design at Utah Tech. He has worked with Joseph Berry, Melissa Mendez, he’s very involved with Flow Party. He’s a pro in the game already and it’s really exciting to be interviewing be him.

The 3 failures Carter talks about are:

1. Starting an agency ( OG Creative) while in college without understanding what it meant and its implications
2. Closing shop on the agency because things didn’t work out with my previous partner and immediately jumped into another relationship starting another one which crumbled before it started.
3.  Not quickly understanding how to balance an healthy work - life relationship and putting relationships in jeopardy.

Ep 32 of Webflail! Today's guest is KC Katalbas (known on Twitter as  @kckatcreative)

I first came across KC first because she made a YouTube video titled ‘I made Tinder but just for fish in Webflow.’ After watching this video, KC’s highly functional, ruthlessly efficient, tech bro vibe made me want to watch more videos like ‘Turning a scrollbar into a baguette cause why not.’

Jokes aside though, Kc puts a lot of interesting content on her channel so go check it out. After 3 years of freelancing, KC had her best year yet in 2022. Her business, Artsci studio, had 22 projects and KC got to the semi finals of the speed build challenge and 2023 looks even brighter.

The 3 failures KC wants to talk about are:

1. Your last job before you started to pursue FreelancingEverything about my very sad, very short lived mid pandemic call center job. This was the last job I had before I started to pursue Freelancing
2. Spending the first year working alone. I barely did any outreach or networking with other freelancers or agencies, and this definitely set me back professionally and emotionally.
3. Having a survive mindset rather than a growth mindset also for that first year. It took me a while to understand that I could build something really great out of freelancing rather than just having it be something that pays the bills

Ep 31 of Webflail! Today's guest is Alysha Laupama (known on Twitter as  @lyshlau )

She has worked in business development and marketing and comms for the last few years before deciding to double down on Webflow after wanting to have a more creative role. 

She made N2TF in September 2022 and since then, 233 people have joined the group. With challenges, show and tells and an extremely active community, Lysh was nominated for the rising start award at webflow conf at the end of last year. 

Although she has not done Webflow very long, she is someone that I think will be extremely succesful since she is insatiably curious, always gives without expecting anything in return and works really hard on her craft.

The 3 failures Lysh wants to talk about are:

1. Rising to the emotion of someone else when they were upset and realising I have made a big mistake
2. Leaving a job to pursue my dream as a dancer, realising it’s not what it cuts out to be and then not knowing how to get back into the dev type work I was doing before
3. Being too much of a yes girl and spreading myself thin. Then getting overwhelmed and not achieving anything

Welcome to episode 30 of Webflail! 

Today's guest is Nancy Peng. I first met Nancy in 2021 when working for an agency that specialised in working with churches in the States. Quite a random job. She was then the agency’s PM - extremely organised and detail orientated. Keen to transition to working in Webflow though, she worked hard to become a really competent webflower so much so that she entered Webflow speed build challenge in 2022 getting to the final 16. Fast forward to now and she works as a Webflow designer and developer for Slam Media Lab and Adaptable. She’s bossing life, I’m so pleased to have a chance to chat to her.

1. Not willing or recognizing the signs to pivot with client projects
2. Failing to recognize my expertise in the space
3. Failing to ask for specific feedback

Welcome to episode 29 of Webflail! Today's guest is Alessia Sannazzaro.

In 2016, Alessia co-founded Code & Wander, an agency that helps companies move quickly by using cutting-edge no-code tools to design and build websites and applications. The agency now comprises of 9 people and is doing well. Alessia is big on community - in November last year, Alessia created FlowTools, a collection of 56+ resources created by the Webflow community all in one place. She is also keen on mentorship having been involved in various startup programmes such as Startup Sprint, The Big Idea Challenge, Hack for Good and Creative Spark in London.

The 3 failures Alessia wants to talk about are:

1. Failing to handle the hiring process well
2. Failing to realise overly crafted proposals may not help conversions
3. Failing to start doing retainers early enough

Today my guest is Dumeme Ndubisi.

He is a product, brand identity designer and web designer based in Lagos, Nigeria. I came across Dumeme when I saw his distinctive portfolio website full of animation, interactions and playful visuals. 

He’s worked in various industries from sport, music, social media over 8 years of doing creative work. On his website, he writes “My mission is to build sustainable design frameworks which create positive cultural shifts and create the ideal product that users will love. 

Ultimately, I want to leave a positive impact on the world through art & design.”

The 3 failures Dumeme wants to talk about are:

1. challenges faced in transitioning into web design
2.  talking about taking on too many projects at the same time
3. underpricing. BUT good opportunity to grow in!

1. I'd say taking on a nightmare of a client when I was really young and struggled to deal with it, that shit was a hell for me
2. not raising my prices sooner

Ailín has had an interesting life - after studying biochemistry and immunology, he worked in labs in cities and realised he craved outdoor living. Leaving that life behind, he became a surf instructor and then learnt wordpress, wix and shopify before training as a front end developer before finding Webflow. He now lives on the west coast of ireland and runs Happy Devflow where he offers different development packages and retainers.
