The Ocean State has "400 miles of coastline" and there are many ways to benefit from the local sustainable food sources under the ocean surface. Scott Travers, Executive Director of the RISAA has the solution to harvesting oceanic bounty. The "RISAA is a non-profit organization, created to provide a forum for recreational saltwater anglers; to provide education to members concerning fishing techniques, improved catches, and overall enjoyment of fishing; to foster sportsmanship; to support marine conservation and sound management of fisheries resources; and provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing in Rhode Island". That may seem ambitious, however they tirelessly provide a valuable service in pursuing ocean access and activities. Listen as Scott describes their June seminars and programs, "Digging Clams" and "Youth Fishing Camps" providing knowledge and experience to adults and youths for proper saltwater techniques. Did you know that you can perform fly fishing on the ocean? Tune In to hear our host Scott learn something new. As Scott Travers states; "Absolutely fabulous, what an experience!". You can also track the results of the "2024 Surfcaster's Challenge" for your states bragging rights. It's always a good day on the coast.
