For followers of Jesus Christ the ten commandments remain as the foundation of ethical behavior and spiritual interaction with our Creator. Through the ten commandments we learn what it means to love God and to love other human beings.

These commands were known by Abraham Genesis 26:5; they were written on tablets of stone as part of the old sinai covenant Exodus 20:3-17; they are now being written on the hearts of those who enter the new covenant Hebrews 10:16.

2 Timothy 2:1-8 in verse 7 Paul tells Timothy to take what he has written and reflect upon it, calling upon, or expecting God the to give insight. That is our goal today: to take these images of effective disciples and reflect on the qualities that bring about success in these worldly endeavors and consider how these might be helpful for us to apply to our personal quest to put on the mind of Christ and attain the better resurrection. `

If scripture is a product of supernatural inspiration powered by the spirit of God then it seems only logical that the information within have a supernatural nature as well as a rational. It provides information that goes beyond describing what is... it opens a doorway to what is not otherwise known. Hebrews 11:1-2

It should be no surprise that you need divine aid to understand the true meaning of scripture. God has to teach you. That divine aid comes from the holy spirit. This is the primary way in which the holy spirit is at work in you. When Jesus spoke to the disciples right before the end... this particular work of the spirit is what He focused on.

John 16:12-13 for some of the disciples this came to pass in the form of actually writing portions of the new testament potion of scripture themselves. However, for most this would come to pass as witnessing and teaching from scripture that had already been written… the old testament.

The holy spirit is a stumbling block for many people. The bible speaks of the holy spirit in so many different ways that understanding it can become jumbled, misunderstanding also happens when people latch on to a small or select set of biblical statements about the spirit and try to massage that into a complete description.

The holy spirit could be described as:

« The creative power and energy of the God family

« The nature, life, and mind of the God family

« The power and active energy of life [temporary life & everlasting life]

We in no way understand the fullness of what it means to be resurrected to same form and manner of life as God. But we do know these events occurred, and we have enough information to whet our appetites and motivate us to seek out and pursue that resurrection.

Philippians 3:20-21 Christ's personal appearances after His resurrection were intended as a demonstration not only of the possibility of resurrection... but of the nature of that resurrection. Investigating Christ's resurrection body helps us understand the nature of our own resurrection. His resurrection establishes a template which will be applied to us... "we are to be like Him"… our future bodies will be like His.

The Jerusalem Council of Acts 15 is very often presented as a turning point in church history in which supposedly a distinct break was made with the principles of teaching obedience to God's law. The Jerusalem Council argument is trotted out to justify abandoning the 7th day Sabbath, and the annual Sabbaths we call holy days.

Our purpose today is to demonstrate that the Council's discussion and decision was limited to defining the role of circumcision in God's formation of a special assembly of people which would be composed of both Jew and non-Jew. It was not written to address the entirety of God’s commands, judgments and statutes.

Paul’s epistles are often referred to by those who wish to teach the cancellation of the laws of God in general... and the holy days in particular. Among the commandments and laws of God the holy days are singled out for special attention due to three specific statements found in: Colossians 2:14-17, Romans 14:5-6, and Galatians 4:8-10.

Today we are going to carefully read our way through these statements and use their context to show that Paul's statements were not negatively targeting the observance of the annual holy days but rather: 1.The manner in which members of the church were keeping them 2.Humanly devised traditions they were elevating to the same level as God's commands.
