The 3rd Commandment: Do Not Use God's Name in Vain

Pictures, objects, and all false representations of God keep us from seeing Him in the multifaceted reality of His being. He acts with gentleness and mercy, He can also act with wrath and judgment. The living God can not be limited to any 2 dimensional, or even 3 dimensional depiction.

His presentation of Himself to us is active, alive, and moral in nature. BY moral I mean that our understanding of Him is based on the quality or character of His actions; just, merciful, faithful, affectionate, self controlled etc. Anything less is a deception.

Don't worship this life or make any aspect of it a greater priority. He says, “have no other God's before me”

Its easy to breeze through this straightforward instruction to “practice” hospitality and consider it a minor point on a checklist of things to do. But lets zero in on hospitality and see how it fits into the larger context of Romans 12 and provides a practical application of the spiritual principles discussed.

God provides us with a listing of creatures we may eat for food and those we may not. He asks us to make a distinction between what is clean and unclean. He sets before us a physical discipline meant to teach a spiritual principle(s). If we only go so as far as the physical discipline without learning and applying the spiritual principle then we are missing the mark.

Lets look into the spiritual principle behind making a distinction between clean and unclean meat!

James 1:5 many of us have probably gotten on our knees to pray and asked for this very thing! We usually ask when we are faced with a tough decision, a course of action we are unsure of, we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place… then we cry out for wisdom.

Read 2 Corinthians 13:5. Has the past year brought you to see yourself more clearly? As you really are rather than how you wish to be or be seen? As God sees you?

Have you sized yourself up by means of His word? Have you seen how you have fallen short or the glory of God?

Are you ready to surrender those strongholds in your mind?
