Hall of Fame Coach Dan Mara returns to the show this week after it was announced that the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Commissioner was appointed to the NCAA Division II Men’s National Lacrosse Committee.

As we say goodbye to 2020, Shawn and Shermet pay tribute to Westcliff Provost, Dr. David McKinney, who passed away in late November. McKinney was perhaps Westcliff Athletics' biggest fan, and certainly its most vocal champion. He will be greatly missed.

From there, the guys discuss the recent Cal Pac decision to uphold Westcliff's probationary year, as well as how COVID has disrupted the sports landscape, especially in California.

The guys kick off this week’s show with a lively round of Fast Facts before the conversation turns to Howard University freshman Makur Maker, a 5-Star, bluechip recruit who chose to attend an HBCU over every blue blood college basketball program in the country.

As COVID-19 makes its winter resurgence, the Warriors of Westcliff are refusing to throw in the towel. While many colleges are calling it a year around the country, Westcliff has decided to scale back its season to the Cal Pac schedule exclusively, but will play on. 

Shawn and Sherm discuss a wide range of topics on the pod this week including the exciting news out the NAIA that the Warriors’ probationary year has been waived pending president approval. The discussion moves from there to college basketball and Gonzaga, where Shawn’s son, Dom, is anxiously awaiting coming off the quarantine list.

With perhaps the most consequential presidential election in American history looming on Tuesday, the guys take a look at the current political climate in sports and how athletes can spark cultural change through political activism.

At Westcliff, all sports programs will have the day off on Tuesday, Nov. 3, so that our entire athletic department, as well as all of our student athletes, will have the time to exercise their right to vote.

Conditional voter registration is a safety net for Californians who miss the deadline to register to vote or update their voter registration information. Voters can use the conditional voter registration process from the day after the deadline all the way through Election Day. Eligible citizens can go to their county election office, polling place, or vote center to register and vote conditionally. These ballots will be processed once the county elections office has completed the voter registration verification process.
