  • Week 24 - aamir.art - There'll be another day
Hi Everyone! I'm Aamir. This is my first post here. I have a hard time finishing songs so I kept it simple with drums, guitar, and me singing.
    Here are the lyrics:
    There'll be another day
    by Aamir
    I dont wanna die
    I just wanna feel alive
In a world without my eyes
    I'll see my heart
    And I'll see the cliff
In a world without my tongue
    I'll learn to live
    And I'll learn to wish
In a world without my touch
    I'll feel the beat
    And I'll feel the bliss
I dream and I dream again
I dream and I dream without my sense
My dreams know that the day is dead
But I know that the day will come again

  • Week 24 - DESLRV - Contradiction
This is what happens when we get our hands on stuff.
More accurately, this is what I did to Contradiction by TheDaeVolta after someone asked me to. I hope they learned from this mistake.
I have some notes for Dizzi, my fellow gfur with a truly awesome name.
First off, your style is very solid, but your voice is not suitable for that register. Try a few tones higher. I used the high-passed tracks to give a more radio feel to the vocals and make that higher register shine a bit.
The vocal filters are also a very definite feature, but they do muddy the vocals. I've controlled the volume so it's punching in emphasis when the lyrics needed them (and added a flanger to make it even stronger). You'll notice it whenever "hate" is sung.
You have very sparse drums, barely any really, it's just a timpani on two pitches. This is a choice, and it can be the right one, but for this I decided a bit more complete kit feels nice.
Guitar. Not really a note, this was just a thing that was asked for, so that's what I did.
Melodies. Usually carried by the vocals, but the vocals didn't have much of any to begin with, and were even further reduced with what I did. So I filled the space with some chiptune. The synth arps are not melodies, though they are really nice, so I boosted them.
    The birds are free.

  • Week 24 - mukti - ENERGIZE
This week I created a stem on Monday, then wrote the rest of the track 4hrs before the deadline. I was in NYC yesterday for a Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert, but you could feel the energy through the city for the World Cup and the NBA Finals. As I was leaving, I got stuck in the rush of people celebrating the Knicks win and spent a lot of the evening trying to get out of the city ๐Ÿ˜… While this track doesn't capture the chaos of the evening, it has the overall vibe I was feeling int he city. Even thought this was hastily created and slapped together a few hours before the deadline, I appreciate any feedback!
This pic is just a tiger head stencil that was on some metal scaffolding near Central Park.

  • Week 24 - Vet - Jeremy
I found the name of the flute guy, Jeremy Ragheb! I used a sample of Demey this time and built my own beat off of it, super fun!
I have to go travel lots from Washington state to Vegas to go the Yo-Yo National Competition! I'm only watching and learning tricks, no competing for me. Hope to see you all soon, have a good summer, stay hydrated!

  • Week 24 - Leo - Multitask
Didn't have nearly enough time to shape a sound design experiment into a track when I started and went down that road regardless. Think the "mode switch" sounds interesting. Let's move on!

  • Week 24 - LeCroqueMonsieur - Tinpot medley aka Hippodrome
We went to Le Mans with @BurnedOutSun and of course had more time watching cars go brrrrrr than recording songs.
This is one of our medleys in the evening that was marred with people from France, England, Poland etc. coming to greet us, party, drink and just celebrate after a torching hot weekend.
Pretty happy with this lo-fi jam, @BurnedOutSun delivered 8)

  • Week 24 - royb0t - pray (061426_105bpm)
surprisingly really focused and detailed, compared to my usual last-minute stuff. performed a lot of the weirdo percussion thru maschine then chopped it up plenty in arrangement view. probably could use another pass, i'm sure some squelchiness is too much. and then i did add some weird electromagnetic screeches and other environmental ambience to texturize further. an incredibly subtle vocal sample in two spots, which is both an entertaining source but also earnestly reflective i suppose, all things considered with life right now.

  • Week 24 - horatiuromantic - Ideacraft
I stumbled on this sound as I was experimenting so I came up with a piece around it. It's the wurli sound built-in to Logic plus the built-in tape delay. I play it quick and with lots of sustain pedal, and I try to match the rhythm of the delay, so that the hits end up feeding back and creating a sound almost like a handpan. With this sound I try to stick to a harmony long enough that the small variations and errors in my playing generate enough interesting sounds that it suggests the next ideas and where to go forward.
Playing fewer notes is key, but maintaining a consistent rhythm based on the delay and listening intently to the emergent patterns is very cool and hypnotic.
It's a nice and relaxing way to play (for the mind) altho it can be a little taxing on the body as my hands end up quite tense - I always try to relax them while playing tho. It's also reminiscent of meditation where you let your thoughts arrive and depart without judging them, letting them go wherever they might lead, and hopefully landing towards a comfortable bliss.
I try to relax my hands while playing, altho it is quite difficult when I play really fast. But it's good endurance training, the more I do it the more comfortable it gets, as long as I don't overdo it... There's an exercise I learned from my drummer but I haven't put it into practice yet... It involves learning to play at a target BPM, by first practicing at two levels higher, than one higher, than the target. For example, play at 160bpm, then 150, then 140 - in order to get really comfortable playing at 140.
I had another song with lyrics but it didn't go so fast, and I'm v tired, so I didn't wanna push that one, and thus I made this one! yay!
I made a video but it's not the original take, I just made a little thing that shows kinda how it looks to play it, and looped it in a weird way.
Thanks for listening, hope you enjoyed it!
