  • Week 24 - 52beats - Winding
Another Ableton Note experiment. 3 percussion tracks, a bass, melody synth, and a pad. EQ done in Ferrite with a Limiter. Winding is the story of a leaf and its fall to the earth brushing against branches, trunks, and finally into a flowing river. Close your eyes and picture it.

  • Week 24 - Daisy - Battlefield
PBS documentaries about Presidents Lincoln and Grant were in my head this week.  I have never participated in a battle.  However, my family is full of military people who told stories of their experiences. I wonder what they would say about my music this week? This piece is a battlefield's progress as described in these PBS histories.  The inverted mordent in the baseline are the marching of the troops.  There is a long crescendo, as the frenzy of battle increases.  I used the Omnibus chord progression-- which is a common way to modulate from one key to another.  I was reading a Music Theory page on FB where it was being discussed sooooo I decided to use it this week.  It builds tension as each key modulates up using all 12 notes of the scale.  The Omnibus and the gradual increase in dynamics builds the tension and urgency. The pauses on the unresolved high G# in the clarinet are the chilling silence during battle. Maybe a bird sings--(the flute) then--gather yourself and keep going. The piece ends "up." There is no resolution to carnage.

  • Week 24 - JaiClone - Alien Feeding Chamber / The Escape
I started a couple of other 'simple' ideas earlier today that, in classic Jai style, quickly evolved into not-so-simple ideas, so this song is a result of a last minute stern "Jai! Just keep it simple!" talk to myself.
As this came together, I imagined it as a scene of a human waking from a sedative, trying to assess what has happened and slowly realizing they're trapped in some sort of alien feeding environment, with humans all around tethered between ceiling and floor with organic matter. They hear a scream and turn to see a large quadrupedal insect-like alien eating the abdomen of another human while still alive. They struggle to try and free themself and begin their attempt to escape. Did they make it...? Were they caught...? Who knows...? :P
The choice to go with acoustic drums instead of electronica is a little influence from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, which was in the back of my mind while imagining the scene.

  • Week 24 - Tone Matrix - Together As One
    › notes‹ notes
Hello there.  Have you ever tried Hibiscus tea?  It twas recommended to me by a friend who had read that it might help with my afibs.  Welp so far, I have a mini 9 day streak going of calm morning wakeups! I've had a cup each night and woah be careful it stains red! :o
So that's my tea recommendation for the week.  Onward to the noodling!
I was still a bit lazy this week when it came to da musics.  Waited until yesterday to smear some chords out.  Since my fam is from New York and I've always been a New Yorker at heart, the recent New York Knicks playoff run has inspired this week's chords.  I loved seeing everyone come together in the streets to watch the games projected on the side of buildings.  It's always nice to see how people can come together.  Thanks for stopping by.  I'm sorry I've been slow in the listening dept still <3 **ginger_waves**

  • Week 24 - Jazzaria - Culture / Broken Glass
Breaks expose facets - facets offer perspectives. Such variety is less transparent, but it rewards amply. Yet it also carries risk - the danger of a a breach too far, and an edge too sharp.
    Featuring piano.
