  • Week 23 - MyloWhyTho - SEWER RAT
Bit of a speedtrash type of week - first half was thrown together entirely on M8 with OXI E16 doing some heavy lifting on modulating (virtually every) FX setting parameter using the encoder recording feature. Second half was thrown together entirely in Ableton with the more generative type of melodic sounds coming from the Augur M4L device.
    Hope y'all enjoy!

  • Week 23 - LeCroqueMonsieur - Anti DnB/Village
Alright, I started as a joke to myself on that one, mostly because my friend @dreat did a non-sonata last time and also my drum wasn’t dnb a few weeks ago! Sooooo, the overall idea is to do something that is almost drum and bass, but only with instruments (bar the drums because I don’t have a drum kit at home) and kinda Jungle but not quite (my tempo) but the opposite (not quite a city, so a village?) and stitch that with my iPhone as usual.
    Setup:
    - Drum A: Midi Modern 909 with increased bass to have more umpph, Jungle drum pattern punched on GarageBand manually
    - Drum B: Midi percussion kit, Jungle drum pattern punched on GarageBand manually, focused on treble
    - Wobble bass: Squier Mustang Bronco with heavy chorus and delay
    - Melody/Drone A: Classical guitar with arpegios. Mixed with Telecaster with flashback delay pedal
    - Sound artefacts: Fender Telecaster with chords merged on volume knob, also some muted notes. Voicing mostly done live with flashback
    - Synth layer: Midi keyboard on iPhone :D
Any Phaser/Phased track is a doubled track with a couple of millisecond offset left/right and reverb to simulate a pure stereo phaser. This is due to the limitations on GarageBand (automation is volume only per track).
I think the outcome is a bit this Frankenstein’s monster of a track that… has flavour? :D
I’ll explore more possibility this year with different setups for sure.

  • Week 23 - gify - The Leak
Woke up Saturday morning to, "why is this carpet wet here?"
Our neighbour had a catastrophic leak on Saturday morning (my WB time!!!), which unfortunately caused some water damage to our place. Studio + equipment are intact, but we have to have these very loud blower fans going for a few days to prevent mould, and my cans are open back, so I had to write this track and mix it on my earbuds, which is not ideal. Needless to say, I didn't have very much time for this track, even though I had planned to.
Hope everyone has a good week and stay's dry!
I was originally trying to noodle around with some Boards of Canada-style synth lines and trying to understand their musical structure a bit, but I shelved all of that at the last minute and scraped this together instead. Might come back to the original ideas I had and keep studying their style more....

  • Week 23 - Sir Bunting - Ogre Cave
I tried Delay Lama for the first time. That's pretty entertaining when it goes yo-ee yo-ee but I didn't try automation lanes for it yet which I imagine can do a lot more. The notes not ending at the end is a bug in my song. So I just picked a note and let it do that... last time that happened on one of my songs was like in 2012 so I guess it's just some anomalous midi thing

  • Week 23 - ONE HIT KILL - One Flip Drill - M8 headless
short on time but luckily the m8 is so powerful it accommodates for that. this took barely any time at all and it slaps. just unfinished and unpolished for now, call it a WIP. Regular m8 users what's your opinion, does this sound like fisher price my first presets to you?

  • Week 23 - Cakes - Lab Work
A quick one this week due to family in town. This is a reshuffle of a hot pants break from one of Acid Lab's Bandcamp sample packs. I dropped that into MPC and did a custom edit. The chime loop is an MPC instrument. The plucky mid bass is also from that. Both were played inside the MPC. Those were bounced into Logic. There I added some Analog Lab strings with a basic progression. The growly bass came out of Bass Station VST. I wish I could have spent more time refining that bass. It's a bit unconstrained and washing out some of the other elements.
I hope you all had a productive week. I'm anxious to make it to the halfway point!

    Reagan saw what was happening
    and let them

    Soon enough
    the dawn breaks
    and we must say goodbye
    never to see each-other again
    until the dark room calls
I just want to be here
    for them
    Reagan saw what was happening

    you were stars that
    helped us through
    that brick was thrown
    and our rights began anew
I just want to be here

He watched as they wasted away
