  • Week 23 - alonemusic - Down With The Reality
It's a weird one this week. I'm deep in live show prep, and I didn't think I would have time for a proper 'track'. but then I sat with my coffee before work, played a few chords, then started resampling them, pitching down, resampling through the same chain, then repeat. Then I had like, 8 minutes of wirdly nice drone. I'm not a big 'listen to ambience for ages' guy, but I was kinda hooked on the sounds, so I trimmed it back, then added what can only be known as 'sloppy chord improv'. This weirdly also worked, so I added a bit of bass, then the samples come from the live tapes I've been creating.
The whole piece sounds really sad. The live show is framed around people losing themselves to AI affirmations and being drawn into delusional thinking. The line sampled throughout this track is from the transcript of ELIZA, the first chatbot, programmed with a very simple 'doctor/therapy' routine. However, it also feels like the last broadcast of a lost ship, so, why not both, as they say.
I guess I should plug the show, but its an 8 hour durationl performance alongside my animator friend at Animafest in Zagreb, Croatia. If you want to hear a bit of rehersal drone then I popped some up here: https://soundcloud.com/alonemusic/drone-patterns-2
Deeply worried about flying with all my synths :D
Anyway. Next weeks track might be more drone, so maybe I've become a drone guy.

  • Week 23 - HoolieBrown - Are We All Made of Star Stuff?
So this is a wild one - that audio is 2 years old - Kiddo was 3 years old.  I got the Model 2 shipped to my dad's place on the east coast because we had porch pirates and I wasn't about to wait another 6 months for one so we flew out to pick it up and took the little one with us.  This was an actual conversation we were having I recorded on the mic, directly on the M8.  He was listening to some Neil Tyson and Carl Sagan audio book about the universe - like 3 year olds do I guess? - and had a lot of great questions.  I heard the notes immediately and started getting excited.
I wasn't as good with the M8 then, and was experimenting with a lot of the preloaded sounds that you'll hear in there, but I took the last week to do a proper mix, punch up the drums and add some analog synth and a choir patch.
One thing I couldn't use was his punch line when he was asking if trucks were also made of star stuff.  I said sure, he said nah... they are made of truck stuff.  He's right, a lot closer to the core of the universe than I am so who am I to question it?
Thanks for this community - I'm traveling for work so it's gonna be tough the next few weeks uploaded but we'll get it done.

  • Week 23 - Tom Foolery - If you could read minds
Another rushed weeklybeat! Written and recorded in less than an hour yesterday in CGDGCC tuning with a capo.
I plan to come back and update this description tomorrow morning but just uploading now in case!!
I am also so keen to come back and listen to the last two weeks of submissions, I'm just struggling for the time, but I'm really keen to hear what everyone has been up to! Thank you everyone who has been listening to mine and leaving comments <3
    if you could read minds
    and you could read mine
    you might as well be
    looking in a mirror
    your eyes
    they burn
    my skin
    in turn
I look for you in every face
    your touch
    is still
    to much
    to feel
it marks me like a bruise
    and when I sleep well
    I think you can tell
    though you're not near me
    you live in my dreams

  • Week 23 - jwh - andy gets organized
a dear friend of ours, Andy, crossed over on May 20. such a beautiful soul. i can't/won't use past tense, because he is here with us. i can hear him right now while i type.
    hi, Andy <3
i found the project files for this song i had written for Andy last year but never finished. seemed like a good time to bring it home.
    › lyrics‹ lyrics
andy kinda wanted a big house
    andy kinda wanted a lie
andy fell in love with the right crowd
    "we're so sorry" they cried
    anyone could see
andy was a real one, right?
    and so finally
    andy gets organized
andy kinda wanted to be older
    find the shamrock inside
    andy didn't want a computer
    he was happy waiting outside
you couldn't hide your love away
    even if you tried
    let's sing that one again
    andy gets organized
    i love you, Buddy.
    XO,
    jwh
