Rushed to put this one together the day I'm headed off on a backpacking trip. Had a nice loop I recorded earlier in the week so (of course) I threw some sax on top of it.

Finding that I'm regretting not making more time for this recently! I miss the few weeks where I had more well thought-out compositions. Hopefully I can get back into that after I'm back.

Time to pack!

SPEEEEEED TRAAAAAASH!! (done within a half-hour, this is probably only my 2nd worst creation of all time, my all time worst was last week, so maybe i'm on an upswing... or maybe not)

How much speed can a speed freak freak if a speed freak could freak speed?!

Aims for this week

What I tried to do differently from what I usually do was:

Go at a faster tempo, but don't go genre-y on it - try to be "me"C major!Include singing (a last minute idea, but still something different)

Channeling my inner Ryan Adams with this one - Big guitars, reverb and chorus.

Guitar is in the same strange tuning from last week - DAEAAE - Still enjoying experimenting with how to use is and coming up with a few ideas with it, so should be hearing more of it in the weeks ahead.

Was going for an attempt at a Julian Casablancas style vocal chain with the tape saturation... I think I'm on the right track, but not quite 100% - I'll keep at it!

Hope you enjoy! have a great week!

Here are the lyrics:

Say it to my face

I'm worth as much as that

I've heard it all before

Not another chance

Ill keep waiting

For something that won't ever come

A feeling of relief

That feeling of relief

Your secrets speak loud

Loud enough to hear

Lowering the tone

Forgetting all these years

So ill keep waiting

For something that won't ever come

A feeling of relief

A feeling if it all coming undone

*Noisy Bridge Section*

So ill keep waiting

For something that won't ever come

A feeling of relief

A feeling if it all coming undone

I recorded the vibraphones, then the bass, then the kick-snare, then the ride, then the hats and then I did some mixing and small arrangement tweaks.

3 samples, 3 pad synths, 2 detail synths.

I didn't intend to submit anything this week, but after a bit of goofing around with pads and an hour of work...

Close your eyes and just take some deep breaths.

Relax for a few minutes, and think of something that makes you happy!

I hope you are all doing well! *sends positive vibes*

Percussion & Drum Programming: Jason Pellegrino

Electric Bass: Jason Pellegrino

Synths & Song Arrangement: levelcapybara

HUUUUUUGE shoutout this week to Jason Pellegrino from some excellent bass grooves and percussion programming, and for putting it all together in the final mix. Jason's an amazing musician and producer and I'm beyond grateful for the chance to work with him on this one!

This started as a challenge to make a backing track that'd be fun to jam out to on bass, and wound up turning into a spiritual sequel to a WeeklyBeat from 2020 along the way:
