  • Week 23 - EME - TARRMIGHT
Weird experimental gabber thing this week as I was experiencing an artistic block so this song kind of embodies the feeling of throwing paint at a wall and calling it an art piece, (so not entirely musically stable Lol) as such the name embodies this feeling like marmite it's either love it or hate it, enjoy anyway :)

  • Week 23 - parappayo - Sordid Zinc
I dipped back into the darker "minimal psy" space this week and used the Polyend Tracker with a dose of "saturated" overdrive to make a crunchy beat. I then layered cosmic horror chords over it -- I improvised those on an iPad running Animoog (been a long time since I dusted off that old gem!) and added reverb to it in a DAW. The Polyend Tracker beat is mostly untouched, but I did use Ozone 10 on the final master to boost the loudness of the whole thing.
When I have time I'll learn FMS, but this week was too crazy. For now I'm falling back on old habits.

  • Week 23 - Stenny - A City Like Me
A little last minute ditty I made while vacationing in NYC! Much like the city, I do not sleep it seems, but these past few days it's been getting better! It's kind of nice knowing that if I couldn't sleep, or was up way too late, I'd be in good company out here - seems people keep a 24 hour schedule of activities out here. Enjoying my time and happy I could find a little sliver of it to make a little something for this week's entry without stressing too much!

  • Week 23 - nerBeater - Electro Revival (Black In Mix)
A square digital artwork for the song "Electro Revival (Black In Mix)" by nerBeater. The image features a dark, highly textured abstract background resembling heavily crumpled foil or thick, glossy, 3D-printed terrain. A jagged, diagonal band of intense, neon colors—ranging from glowing cyan and electric blue to bright white, hot pink, and lime green—cuts across the center. The surrounding areas consist of deep black, dark blue, purple, and red shadows. Overlaid across the bottom half is the text "NERBEATER" followed by "ELECTRO REVIVAL" and "(BLACK IN MIX)" written in a casual, slightly jagged, hand-drawn white font with a subtle black outline.

  • Week 23 - It'sAlwaysBeenBears - wenn ich warte geht es vorbei
translated "it goes by when i wait"
its been a a challenge that I wanted to write faster songs. as a teenager all my songs hit around 100 bpm. this is 160 bpm and it feels fast pasted which i love. lyrics were written quickly but i think thats why they work. not overthinking and using as few words as possible because its dance music.

    Week 23
    Goal at start:
My notes from last week were to analyze reference songs for how they layer sounds and when.
Here are a few other things I’m trying to keep in mind this week:
Try designing the melody based on when it appears in the song, such as intro, verse, or bridge.
Use sound selection as the basis for melody. Test drive sounds to see what kind of melodies they might give rise to.
Have an idea of what style and tone you’re going for from the beginning and weigh everything against that. Don’t just drift aimlessly trying random things.
Pay attention to chords and scales. Think about what tone you’re setting for the overall song and if it matches your goal.
Focus on emotion, clarity, and energy.
Trying singing or humming the melody to assess how catchy it is.
Maybe try singing some mock vocals along with it.
    End notes 6/5:
This week was chaotic. For a start, I ended up throwing out all my first days work because it was trash, so I lost a whole day. I started with something else using the same project file and reusing the same instruments. The end result is salvageable but I feel like I failed on almost all my starting goals, so I guess I’ll repeat the same goals next week.
    Plan for next week:
    Try again.

  • Week 23 - Cosmic Cairns - Wiggle Room
This week is another instrumental filled with synth explorations and found sounds.  We recently got our dogs some new toys and I couldn't help but notice they made a really cool weird sound when you shook them.  So I recorded one of them at three different speeds: normal, super sped up, and super slowed down.  This also has the sound of my ring spinning on my desk both forwards and backwards, and also a soda can pop top with a heavy delay on it.
