  • Week 21 - 52beats - Kitchen Sink
A winding percussive beat. I imagined a snake weaving through the scattered silverware fallen from the counter. Another Ableton Note beat. Mostly done because of life’s busy state right now.

  • Week 21 - shaike - Half-Hearted Hero
Big feelings week. Needed to ride it out on a song. I feel like a half-hearted hero sometimes, and being a hero isn't always what I need.
    Lyrics:
I aint getting the attention I need
I'm avoiding the destruction I feed
    (I'm the) Half Hearted Hero
Reservation for the smile on my face
    Devastation for sympathy's disgrace
    (I'm the) Half-Hearted Hero
Hallelujah for the burdens I feel
Lashed out affection before the last meal
    (I'm the) Half-Hearted Hero
********** then it fell on my face *********
It had a blankey over it so that I could have good clean sound, and it seems to have worked. I recorded one take and then it was good enough. Didn't want to figure out how to actually secure everything.

  • Week 21 - Paisleyfrog - The American History Road Trip
    Let's do some Americana.
From a trip out to Arizona.
The cool thing about Weekly Beats is that it gives me some set time to work on any project that might arise. Currently working on some theme music for a new podcast, The American History Road Trip. The idea for what the host wanted was pretty clear - that sort of folky, acoustic Americana feel.
The Frog is on the case.
Got out ol' #12 (my upright bass) as well as harmonica, guitar, and mandolin. Just jammed to an easy chord progression. Not a ton of edits - there are two tracks of mandolin, and I chopped it up to switch back and forth between chops and noodling. Also clipped the harmonica solo to move a better riff to the beginning. Aside from that, I pretty much just played it straight through for each instrument.
Really happy with what I’ve learned about mixing and recording so far this year - I think this is the best upright bass recording I’ve ever gotten.
Toyed with recording drums, but I am nowhere near good enough to get a train beat with brushes. Used a Session drummer and stripped it away to just the snare.
Whole thing went together in a couple hours. This is the proof of concept theme - it’s been approved, so I'll be making more pieces to go along with the show. :)
This is the fastest I've ever finished a week...which gives me a lot more time to listen to posts! Y’all are killing it this year.
    On to week 22!

  • Week 21 - loteq - experiment1
teetering on unlistenable but wanted to push it to see how it would sound. it started off as a different idea altogether which i then distorted a few times with some reverb/delay/modulation between them and then duplicated the kick and snare over the top of the old group channel with some sidechain and an overly compressed master channel to finish. got a few nice sound design elements in there somewhere haha

  • Week 21 - formalprocess - Vagal Manoeuver
Found my heart keeps beating at 107 bpm for extended durations until it resets through intervention. So this track embraces the 107 bpm. Surprised that I was able to sleep under that intensity, but my dreams were entirely too vivid.  Will work on getting this under control.
