  • Week 21 - eleventhstage - Untitled FMS Jam 01
So, FMS got released the other week and I eventually got it running ok on my 3DSXL (the open_agb_firm method is best) and have been playing with the various aspects of it and enjoying it a lot. This is what came from that. A mix of as many features that I could manage: different playback rates, chord mode, tweaking a tracks sound in realtime (very handy, done on the "delayed" arp throughout this piece), the step echo which is fascinating.
This was jammed out in 1 take after practicing a few times. Accidentally clocked in at 8m10s. Then, I automated a filter and "mastered" in Ableton.
    Rambled a bit there.
    Enjoy.

  • Week 21 - cistern stairs - exploring a really big attic
    Week 21
    Goal at start 5/20
I wanted to do something simple this week because there were some other music related projects I needed to give more attention to, so this is just a simple ambient track with a few elements.
    End notes 5/22
During the process of mixing this I was reminded of the fact that I’ve hardly ever got a good result from using compressors (flstudio stock). I’ve consistently heard that compressors are almost always used, but for me they hardly do anything until the sound is too muffled to work. This leads me to believe that must be something I’m not understanding about how to make these tools give a good result.
    Plan for next week:
I think next week I want to try layering dubstep growls with other basses or 808s to achieve a fuller bass sound. This is something I’ve been pondering.

  • Week 21 - MrAtlantis69 - Billy The Kid
Started this last sunday at the in-laws. The riff came from just noodling around. I can hear loads of things when I play it like a fast "I left my Heart in San Francisco" or my fiance said it sounds like a major key inspector gadget. It's a trail/saloon song about a man who repeats the same warnings to plenty of bounty hunters that go after Billy the Kid and end up with the same result. The song clips like mad and I've tried everything in my power to get rid of it but to no avail. The song is mad long too so when I finished a take I liked I couldn't be bothered to record again and so I've tried to automate to remove some of the clipping. Enjoy!

  • Week 21 - halfbyte - Urban Cycles
This tries maybe a bit too hard to be burial-esque, but I don't think I've ever fully nailed that aesthetics in a way that this track does before. I wish I had a bit more time to tweak and diversify the drums, but hey, WeeklyBeats, amirite?
The phone message is by QuartzGate via Freesound.org and is licensed under CC BY-NC, which is why this track also uses that license in contrast to the BY-SA I usually do.
The NYC sounds at the beginning and end are from Freesound.org as well, licensed under CC-0.
Last but not least a shoutout to Cableguys' Shaperbox which is my latest aquisition and boy is this a powerful plugin. The beat alone uses two instances in different places. Nothing I did there couldn't be done in a different way, even with stock plugins, I guess, but it's just so convenient and immediate. Love it. (Unfortunately: Not sponsored)

  • Week 21 - YOTTA - Good enough maybe...
This week was the hardest yet. Couldnt get anything going at all.
I understood when going into this challenge, that some weeks just would suck ass.
Cant say if the song is really bad or if I am in a weird head space with music this week.
Will know after some weeks with fresh ears =)
Anyhow, drums from the MPC, and some various synths. Mostly Digitone 2.
    Thank you for listening
    Have a nice week!

  • Week 21 - ENC_ - W21 - 5_21_26 26 SHITE
Worked on job application slowly but, surely. Distracted regullarly, only break is walks w/ AL. Losing track of time.
    Software Used:
    ReCycle
    Ableton
    Audacity
    Izotope Decapitator (sample processing)
    Izotope RX10 De-click (sample Processing)
    Renoise
    Tal-chorus-LX
    IzotopeOzone 10
Made in Renoise while testing some processed Boss Dr-202 samples. Lofi quality to samples. 100% made with a handfule of 202 sounds (probably not a surprise to anyone). Too much LSDJ that leads no where this week. Novelty wearing out fast. Samples from old pile. Avoiding buying new ones out of laziness. Feeling uninspired. Purely practice submission for sake of getting it done. Renoise randomized tempo to 115. Stuck with it. Under stimulated or overly pushed. Not sure which one.
