  • Week 18 - hieroglitch - 2026_18
Excerpt from a wonderful 40ish minute recording. Set the Manis Iteritas to drone mode and it created these lovely sounds.
There's really a power to just sticking to the same modules and diving deep.
This was just before the ghosts kicked in - for whatever reason, there's something in my signal flow which occasionally has this interesting buildup/echo. Not sure what causes it, but it's happened a few times now.
Anyway, it was difficult to choose a part this week, but I'm happy with the selection.

  • Week 18 - Dank Receptor - Signable Rehires
This week i dug out an old Alesis D4 that's never really been used much. Made a couple of bars of percussion on it, added a syncopated acid line and some tense pads. Recorded it live via a Mackie to Ableton, then added a breakbeat that syncopated nicely against the existing elements. Some edits for fun.
Thanks for checking in, take care!

  • Week 18 - george bowles - Interruptions (weekly beats week 18)
first week i kind of procrastinated til the last day but it turned out really well, sort of trance meets idm...
the big ambient keyboard sounds from my hydrasynth going into my guitar pedalboard with all three delays going...
this sounds a bit like a series of ambient drone albums i've been working on but with a beat added. didn't have time to edit it down so it is presented in 160 kbps lo-fi glory.

  • Week 18 - It'sAlwaysBeenBears - You need to leave now
the instrumental this time was recorded and mostly done in about 2 hours because most sounds you hear are from my "percussion bag" - which means that its just alot of junk i collected over the years. I knew that i won't be able to record vocals for it but After the Ashes stepped in and recorded amazing vocals. It's now something i could have never come up with.

  • Week 18 - PeterM - MERRY CUTOFF
Let the M8 random name this one. I'm sort of embracing the low effort music it seems. This is a semi-noodle with my piano's e-piano preset. I have it going through a Lost & Found pedal with some tape effect and some ambience. Added a bit of shimmer in the M8 too.

  • Week 18 - Paisleyfrog - Now O Now I Needs Must Part (The Frog Galliard)
Let's do some Renaissance music. For real this time!
Image is an inside view of my oud (that the bridge exploded off of). Another repair project...
Last week's song really got renaissance music stuck in my mind. I've spent a LOT of time at ren fairs, the Celtic band I was in had a fair number of early music pieces in the setlists, and I’m currently in an early music group. I've recorded arrangements for other projects before, and have been wanting to do that for Weekly Beats. Yet again I had little time for music, so I thought it might be nice to take the writing pressure off and do an arrangement of a piece I knew.
In deciding what to play, I looked at an unfamiliar Dowland piece called Now O Now I Needs Must Part (1599)...and discovered it shared a melody with a piece I HAD played before - The Frog Galliard (a dance piece Dowland had written in 1597. Reduce/reuse/recycle!) I've done a recording of that before, but never used any of those lyrics. Plus come on...Frog Galliard? I had to do a new arrangement of it.
The version I used had the recorder lines (which I mixed and matched), but nothing else. I wanted to keep the arrangement relatively simple with some guitar or bass. I don't currently have a classical guitar, but the FrankenGuitar I made last summer worked nicely (I had cut out the broken sound board and replaced it with a metal serving tray. More subtle and muted now.) Thought about adding bowed upright bass but ultimately left it alone. Also ran out of time. And hey! No midi this week, all tracks recorded live.
Vocals were a bit of a challenge - I don't like the key of G. Really had to work on opening up and not pinching, this is sort of high for me and I’m still feeling the effects of my cold. The melody isn't exactly right for Now O Now, and I made up my own harmony, but that's OK…this is my own arrangement. :)
Everything got pretty much done in a few hours - recorded the instrumental in an hour and a half on Friday evening, and then finished it off in a couple hours late that night. This was fun.
There are three verses to this song, but I only did the first and the refrain. I wanted to split the feel between the song and the Galliard…also didn’t do as many repeats on the sections as would be as written. A bit of a slice and dice into its own structure.
    › Lyrics‹ Lyrics
Now, O now, I needs must part,
    Parting though I absent mourn.
    Absence can no joy impart:
    Joy once fled cannot return.
While I live I needs must love,
Love lives not when Hope is gone.
Now at last Despair doth prove,
    Love divided loveth none.
Sad despair doth drive me hence,
    This despair unkindness sends.
    If that parting be offence,
It is she which then offends.
