  • Week 18 - nerBeater - 212 Point 9
    212 Point 9
    What about tomorrow?
I'm just a monkey made of money
A dropout of a history tree
    Landless in World War Trinity
I could give you my 2 cents
A day, in the price hikes
So maybe you'd think to take
Your trike to work, now pedal
    Pedal, earn your medal, clerk
Don't even remember "what a strike"
Swipe that smirk right off your screen
What can you glean from the mirror
Mirror, on the wall, which nation
    Likeliest to fall, which station
    Unlikely to remember the call
Not trying to be a jerk but the gas-<
Gas prices-- are what I'm referring
    Responsibilities  I'd like to shirk
Don't mind the sharks, in the sea,
Or writing the C++, what could be better
    What about tomorrow?
I'm just a monkey made of money
A dropout of a history tree
    Landless in World War Trinity
I could give you my 2 cents
A day, in the price hikes
So maybe you'd think to take
Your tribe to work, feel better
    Than doublePlusUnGood, just Saiyan
    Not Super-Sane, that B.. Supra-good
Not hyper-bad, have you ever been
To Hyderabad? I've heard of a place
A place, before? Where did it go?
Right out the window? What to do? What do you
Mean by you, though? Is that me, or
A group, 'cos all of you claim to be one
Are you individuals, or singular, or plural
What the bleep are you? and you're screaming
About them? Don't worry about them
They have a plan, and they're figuring it out
212.9 cents a litre yesterday, I'm never leaving
214.9 cents a litre today, we're never learning
'Ere today, gone tomorrow, you still leaning?
Ever heard an idiom, like licking a lead horse?
    What about tomorrow?
I'm just a monkey made of money
A dropout of a history tree
    Landless in World War Trinity
I could give you my 2 cents
A day, in the price hikes
So maybe you'd think to take
Your trike to work, pack mule
Hoarse, the voice, complaining like an ass
It's just gas, a little bloat of gas, a tiny pool
Of fossil waste, a bit of carbon sink, we packt
Put it in its place, we should leave it underground
Can you breathe in a room of 90 percent plus
Carbon dioxide, I don't recommend that math
Calculate, like in a garage with a dripping tailpipe
I hope you're not thinking that way out
Think of taking clean air way in, as life makes-
Creatures took a billion years, minus fear
To take a couple percent O2, to about what
We got, we got so much to breathe, haaaa
Life keeps O2 on the brink, keeping us
Animals into leaping, deep diving, high flying
What brink? The fire, O2 burns the gas
Remember, Man, Prometheus, yeah right, ass
    What about tomorrow?
I'm just a monkey made of money
A dropout of a history tree
    Landless in World War Trinity
I could give you my 2 cents
A day, in the price hikes
So maybe you think it's fake
Our fate to burn the ground amass
Drop the sass now, completely, be free
Or stick to your NO2 point.. (oh, oh)
Don't worry about me, I take the bus
I'm never leaving Canada again (not bad)
    Hyper-bad? Supersaiyan? Just saying
This ain't Newspeak, you might be feeling
A little bleak, 'cos civilization's reeling
    Looks like approaching a peak
Peek out your door, roll up the window
Rise to the zenith, the maximum effort
    Awareness, not Looks-maxxing, not reels
I refer to keeping it real, the old school knew
New slang gets slung, I mean since
About 2001, I've picked up a new one, or two
Like I gotta say, at least 6-7 choice slimes
Oh gosh, did someone's nerve just cellular
    What about tomorrow?
I'm just a monkey made of money
A dropout of a history tree
    Landless in World War Trinity
I could give you my 2 cents
A day, in the price hikes
    Maybe you won't hang up
    Defend the receiver (that's you)
Just cell signals, there are no complaints
Forget the way to heaven off a cliff drive
Hell with confusion and pain and the drain
My brain is real and so are my choices
You can reconcile, but not economics
I mean with truth, sit there, mistake a TIN
    Man...
Stop at a cowardly Line, with that other one,
Who are you scared of, do you remember?
When, where, anyway? If you are unaware
    My references predate the existence
Of my own physical rhyme, I had the somatics
I've been shaking to a New Beginning since
1995, when it actually happened, if you forgot
It's okay, cos you actually remember in the way
I really mean, you have to glean the moves
In my legs as my feet shift into the groove
    What about tomorrow?
I'm just a monkey made of money
A drop out of a history tree
    Landless in World War Trinity
I could give you my 2 cents
A day, in the price hikes
Maybe ours life can get saving
It's great that I can help you, mom, we can turn it
Up, the music, loud, shake it, the vacuum
Cleaner is loud, but love should be louder
We can sing and cry and clean up the mess
I won't confess anything, it' be idempotent
I've laid it all out, what effin' closet?
    Close the stereo cabinet, please
Let's keep moving this dust out
    What about tomorrow?
I'm just a monkey made of money
Drop out of the history tree
    Landless in World War Trinity
I could give you my 2 cents

  • Week 18 - Joshua Morgan - Lazy Panda
Started this little idea and felt like it didn't need much more than an intro/outro to be 'finished'. I really love the idea and challenge of Weekly Beats. It has been forcing me to learn/implement/iterate with the m8. Which is honestly my favorite instrument right next to (and maybe slightly above) the Hydrasynth. I actually just uploaded a bundle of sounds made on the m8 inspired by some of my favorite Hydrasynth patches to the dirtywave discord server. I'm pretty sure next weeks track will feature some of those sounds but this weeks I wanted to keep things kinda simple as I'm still wrapping my noodle around the m8.
I recently learned how to make this sucker do swing and proper triplets so that's why this one has a 'alley cat on heroin' vibe. Hence the title and vocal sample :)
    Hope you enjoy!

  • Week 18 - emily - the fool
    › lyrics‹ lyrics
    the fool
    dances on a ledge
    holding
    holding all they can carry
    the fool
    dances in the sunlight
    the fool
    lets go
    all their worries
    and dances on a ledge
    the fool
    dances in the sunlight
    the fool
    will fly to greater heights

  • Week 18 - boorch - W18: Vang
Grampus finally has a 1.0 release! (actually it came to 1.1.2 within a couple of hours of initial 1.0 release hahah)
i added interesting features like humanization (timing jitter and velocity jitter) to one of the engines. i added polivoks inspired screaming filters (which you can hear after midpoint, driving a primitive ROMpler guitar instrument to fuzz territory)
i also added SCENES. and this tune is a (poor) first attempt of testing jumping between various scenes to resemble some sort of rough song structure. i loved how humanization features added character to the piano.
i actually wrote this patch and even recorded and uploaded it from my iPad! (iPad build is experimental, won't be released anytime soon, but still, it's available for desktop AND TrimUI Brick!)
if you're curious, you can get the project file here. (it has multiple scenes) it should load fine on v1.1.2 onwards
    enjoy!

  • Week 18 - Crash Overture - Piano and drum experiment
This is a simple one. Basically 2 grand pianos using two different auto play settings, some vintage drums, and one synth.
i spent a lot of time trying different accompaniment but nothing sounded as I wanted. Or it started to get to messy.  Even things like adding a swing to the piano or moving up or down a semi tone.  Something about the auto play just stuck in my head.  I will say that the end part when the drums really kick in is when it shines.
Also next week will be odd because I am away and will try to post something.

  • Week 18 - NickLong - SL-1 Reactor Incident
This was my attempt to make a track in the style of Tool or Deftones using a crazy time signature, but with a melody which fit over it naturally without sounding jarring.
I was also building on my themes of mixing 3 and 2 and my Stravinsky DnB experiment where it changes time signature every bar.
This song alternatest between 4/4, 3/8, 4/4, 6/8, 4/4, 9/8 or 21/4 would be another way of looking at it, but good luck counting that :D
    It was made with:
    Drums: Modern and Massive 2
    Guitar: Neural Gojira and Nameless
    Bass: Neural Darkglass
The song is about the real life incident of the SL-1 experimental reactor which has always fascinated me.
In 1961 an operator pulled out a control rod causing the reactor to explode and kill all 3 people present. The great mystery is that anyone working on the reactor would know the consequences, but given no one survived it's unknown why he did it.
    Lyrics
    Cold in the core
    We are the lost crew
    Restarting
    SL-1
    Pull the rods
    Boiling the water
    The damage  Is now done
    Flashing blue and bursting out
    Through the heart
We made a water hammer suicide
    Blown Appart
    Vapourised
    Thrown in the air
    Nailed to the ceiling
    Impaled by SL-1
    Buried in lead
    No heroes vigil
    Locked under
    Poisoned earth
    Flashing blue and bursting out
    Through the heart
We made a water hammer suicide
    Blown Appart
    Vapourised

  • Week 18 - MAXELL XL3 - theremini exploitation
I bought a Moog Theremini last week and spent a few days learning how to play it. To practice, I used a rhythmic and melodic sample from my SP-404 and played along.
My first recordings from those early practice sessions were pretty disappointing, so I decided to start over. This time, I experimented more with isolating parts of the sample and adding some warble effects. The full recording ended up being about an hour long, which I later edited down to under ten minutes.
After that, I added some guitar with effectpedals. In the end, the track doesn’t really have any standout moments, it just kind of drifts and meanders for nine minutes through time and space.
