  • Week 18 - angellis - MMXXVI - XVIII
Babies. Designed to make music making a challenge and time is short, however I did have time for this track this week.
Nothing too fancy, but it was fun trying to get that nasty, punchy, crunchy drum sound. XLN RC20 is rad.
More minifreak and massive on this.

  • Week 18 - TheDaeVolta - Poetry
Reached out to my lovely mother to record her talking about my poetry as a kid, with no other prompting and used it in a song!
Really long intro on this one, but I like it! ha ha
    As always, constructive criticism appreciated!
Fun fact - I hit my highest chest-voice note ever here! (A3, technically A#3 with the vibrato), I can;t go higher without switching to head voice... yet ;)

    (When you were young
    You used to write poetry
and I remember how amazed I was with the words you used
and the way you put your thoughts and ideas together
it was such a big discovery for me
to realize that you enjoyed it
    and you had that ability
    and that talent
    to do that
    and I still
    really enjoy your creative ideas)
    You nurtured the spark
    that kept me
    alive
    you made sure I
    was able
    to thrive
    (When you were young
    you used to write poetry
    I still really enjoy
    your creative ideas)
    You saw everything in me
    early
    nurtured the artistic side
    helped me navigate my life
    my life
    My artistic path
    ensured
    I'd last
    that freedom to create
    helped me avoid
    his fate (fate)
    (When you were young
    you used to write poetry
    I still really enjoy
    your creative ideas)
    You saw everything in me
    early
    nurtured the artistic side
    helped me navigate my life
    my life
    Opportunities were light
    in my small
    town
    Technology and art
    soon calmed
    my heart
    You saw everything in me
    early
    nurtured the artistic side
    helped me navigate my life
    my life

  • Week 18 - shaike - Come to my Puppet Show
M8 sampling my folk band and tried to be a little gross with it.
Go listen to Mystery Beans so that we can eventually produce the actual song that this is sampling. Ha.
    Thanks ya'll!

  • Week 18 - K48R - Macro letters
When I sat down to start this track I was thinking about cheesy mall music from the 1990s. I pulled the composition back to something even more simple while trying to capture the feeling of an aimless day filled with light consumerism.
My personal favorite part of this track are the drums which are sliced from a Green Maple Groove sample off an old Sony Creative Studio CD. There is something about live drums being chopped and put through a drum machine on the grid.

  • Week 18 - Cosmic Cairns - Casual Ties
I have a notebook where I jot down random ideas that pop into my head.  Then sometimes when I need an idea for a WB track or whatever later on, I'll skim through it and see if anything piques my interest.  Sometime a while back I had written "Casual Ties".  I'm pretty sure I was making a play on words on "casualties" but I decided to focus on the idea of casual ties as I started to come up with lyrics, and then let them go where they wanted to go.
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Unseen tethers fraying so slowly
Barely noticed the distance was growing
    Carried away with the tide
    Continents drift forming new mountains
Rise between us can't go around them
    Tectonic plates shift with us
Bright blazing fires soon tepid and cold
Valuing new things discarding the old
Birds are flying over the treetops
Soar on til the temperate wind stops
    Guiding them to fertile shores
You've been waiting here for me
    Down in the dumps
    With half opened eyes
    Always knew we had something
    Far more profound
    Than casual ties
We crossed paths for a reason
    Long time ago
    It wasn't just chance
I hear hints in the wind of
    A lovely song
    Would you like to dance?
    Empty highways stretching out ahead
Leading nowhere let's stay here instead
    Under the vast onyx skies
And the Earth spins bringing new events
But I'd rather stay in this moment
    Held here by casual ties

  • Week 18 - Sir Bunting - Wizard Spire
The scale for this week was a "spanish pentacluster" which is irregular and doesn't give a lot of room to work with.
I tried doing a 5 against 4 with the percussion to make it sound like there's an elevator or gears inside the wizard tower. That's kind of it

  • Week 18 - MrAtlantis69 - Euphoria
Would love to give this one more time and another take but I go on holiday tomorrow and have no time! Lyrics are a non-biographical exploration of the clash of emotions someone might feel when becoming a parent. Solo drags on a bit as I was trying to hit a long chain of triplets and it took me a few attempts lol. Enjoy! :)

  • Week 18 - toaster74 - Week18 - Neon Hearts
I am increasingly motivated to connect more and more gear I find that has a MIDI interface. Let’s see where this ends… can you recognize the instruments?

  • Week 18 - cistern stairs - other worlds
    Week 18
    Goal at start 4/28
Focus on sound selection. Try to think about how the frequency range is filled and whether there is a sense of dimension or flatness.
Also try singing/humming the melody to assess how catchy it is.
    End notes 4/30:
I liked the first loop I created, then everything else was a challenge of trying to make the other loops as interesting as the first one. But then just making the other loops as good isn’t enough  because they have to also flow into each other smoothly, so that was a major challenge on this one. I guess it helps to set the bar high with your first loop so you’ll be motivated to match it with the other loops.
    Plan for next week:
Continue focus on sound selection plus adding more layers and countermelodies (for practice, not because every song needs complexity). Also focus on sense of space around each sound. Remember to hum the melody to assess its quality.

  • Week 18 - Minnamari - Yearning
Just a little something. Unfinished, like my mental state, or like my life.
    Restless energy this week.
    › Yearning/Whining‹ Yearning/Whining
Yearning is often complex and contradictory
    Yearning for solitude
    while
    Yearning for togetherness, for belonging
Yearning for the kids to go to daycare
    while
Yearning for time together with them
Yearning for patience and presence to play with them while they're still here (still kids)
    while
Yearning for a moment to just play on my own, with my own projects without needing to cater to anyone else, without the risk of being interrupted
Yearning to be wiser and calmer than I am
    while
Yearning to be so foolish again that I wouldn't care to be wiser or calmer, and could just...live...without so much thinking, without so much Yearning.
