  • Week 18 - DESLRV - Comfy Box
Was sick this week, so make this quick before it got worse.
It's nothing enormous, but we really need to dial back complexity, stick to the easy stuff that works.

  • Week 18 - FardyCakes - Randy Panda
Another sparse one this week.  This is mostly m8, but decided to hook up my guitar to add a bit to the arrangement. Gotta represent the guitar gang.  Still in the process of moving and will probably be busting my ass to get everything into the new place this weekend.  So, I wanted to try to get something up now before deadline.  I may come back to edit this if my studio space is up and running by Sunday, but if not, I will have to let this one stand.
Wrote this on guitar on Monday and then spent way to long sitting in bed last night on my DirtyWave m8 arrange the synths and drums.  Added some basic rhythm guitar, and this is where we stand for now.

  • Week 18 - Colorcast - Minus Seven Plus Four
I can never really get a song done unless I just completely turn my brain off. Or if I force myself to make a song. But forcing myself to work always turns up lackluster results.
I didn't notice until like halfway into making this that it sounded a lot like "Eighteen Years", the song I made last week. Oh well... maybe next week I'll just do a chill lofi jam again.

  • Week 18 - parappayo - We Want Sharper Kids
The testimony of this Dr. Horvath dude went viral among my peer group last week. I don't like being too boxed in by generational stereotypes, but I'm an elder millenial with a young kid and my immediate reaction was "like, man, why do you have to throw kids under the bus like that?" Maybe there's something to it, maybe not. Two things I'm confident of are 1) every generation tends to say that young people these days are somehow under-performing, and 2) a scientists or researcher who broadcasts this kind of alarming news to the public is usually trying to make themselves famous above any other motive they may have. So as a little ritual to bleach my brain, I edited Dr. Horvath's statement into words of positive affirmation about Gen Z and made a little jam out of it. This was all done in Bitwig with some of my usual favs: Lush 2 for chords, Basimulus Iteritas for kick, Tekno for drums, and SketchCassette for compression and warmth.

  • Week 18 - Jackmsimpson - Skylights
Getting in early this week as I'm away, so finished off the most complete idea I had floating around!
My Wife often says I only write sad, depressing songs, so here is proof to the contrary! 1/18 songs being happy seems a fair ratio I'd say...
Guitar was tuned FADGBe - again, just trying something slightly different to switch things up and think outside of easy mode.
Vocals have been heavily processed - I wanted an overtly tuned, almost robotic kind of sound to it. I quite like it, but it won't be to everyone's taste. Also continuing to experiment with harmonies and other vocal techniques.
Lyrics are oddly spaced... In a way, I feel like they are missing something in some places, but this is what I ended up with! Enjoy! Thanks again for listening.
our usual programming of Sad-Mopey-Emo-Jangle will return next week.
    Lyrics:
The streetlights hum a quiet tune
    Casting shadows on the moon
Your voice echoes in the breeze
I count the stars like distant friends
The road curves but never ends
Every step is you and me
    [Chorus]
Streetlights talk when the world goes still
    They whisper dreams
    They bend my will
    Flickering truths
    They keep me near
Even when you're far from here
    [Verse 2]
    The pavement cracks
    A map of time
    Each break a story
    Each line a rhyme
I hear you laugh as you leave
    The clouds roll by
    A restless tide
They carry words I never tried
    To send
Streetlights talk when the world goes still
    They whisper dreams
    They bend my will
    Flickering truths
    They keep me near
Even when you're far from here
