  • Week 16 - prophisee - Sun Dog
This week's topic was inspiration from a sun dog I saw sailing which is a special rainbow like phenomenon that rarely happens off clouds at sunrise or sunset. Pulled out a metaphor for missing life's rewards if you aren't tuned into the present moment and paying attention.

    [CHORUS]
    Late night you’re wide awake
    Late night you’re wide awake
Can’t hold on before it drifts away
Blow another second like a hand grenade
    [VERSE]
Rainbow halo tango, in a kaleidoscope
Sundown crystals glow while I wait on the waves
The day falls into a haze
    Stay too long it decays
I tried to see the sky
    But missed the blaze
    I’ll glide while I’m alive
    Won’t count the days
    From morning until night
Remain in tune with sun and moon
Cuz on a moments notice soon
the earth will burn the life you missed
My goal is to write better lyrics this year so I've been following the process and frameworks from Writing Better Lyrics by Pat Pattison.
This is the first time I've had success with the "rhyme worksheet". Haven't found it massively helpful for hooks but it helped me string together a passable rap verse in 5m once the sheet was done. Shared it in the idea section.

A sun dog as a metaphorical reward for presence and seizing the moment
Saw one while sailing at sunset.
Background: The only appear at sunrise and sunset. Bright hotspot vs a rainbow. Appear through ice crystals. Light needs to hit the right cloud and get refracted back at exactly 22 degrees.
    Metaphors:
22 degrees - beauty only snaps into focus both with the right outlook, the right moment, and if you’re paying attention
Hotspot - sharpness breaking through the haze. Emotions, fulfillment of desire, etc

Cruising and bobbing along. Moving is a slow but effortless glide. Not like the feeling in a car, where something feels a bit contrived and unnatural about the coasting. More like riding a bike down a hill. This is the natural outcome of harnessing nature. Above the sky is orange and the air is a bit cool. It’s hard to make out all the details around the cranes and ships on the skyline, but a bright light reaches out from the edge of a cloud. Like a rainbow in a tiny spot. Not too bright to look at. Not too dull to miss if you’re looking right at it.  Subtle glimmer that feels very out of the usual.
Feel free to roast so I can get better

  • Week 16 - squelette - habs in six
Got a bit lazy this week. The backbone is essentially the first thing I did on the m8 about 13 months ago. I kept the barebone arrangement and mangled with it and did a basic mixdown. The result feels pretty stupid but I'm glad I can drag this one is the ''done'' bin and probably never listen to it again! I do love the rubbery bass and will reuse that!
    Also , habs in six

  • Week 16 - Tomatron.Jones - Infinite Regress
I didn't start working on this until a few hours before it was due. I found a neat synth patch, started pitch shifting and messing with it, realized I stumbled upon an interesting chord progression I had written on guitar long ago, and took it to the limit - a sort of infinitely progressing '2-5-1'-ish progression I think. It's almost like the harmonic equivalent of a Shepard tone that sounds like it goes up forever. Inspired by some Flying Lotus lo-fi production as well. Had some fun with the bass as well, matching it to the kick, and the lead synth line. Threw in some random samples of kids cheering for fun. Definitely ran out of time on this and it got a little messy, but it's kinda fun.

  • Week 16 - laguna - Domino
Created as an exercise in MIDI and audio connections, because I discovered ADAT 25 years late.
3 Eurorack oscillators, 1 hardware delay and multiple interconnected Ableton FX across Live 8 and Live 10.
I've been looking for something extra to add, but I don't have a clue.
Guess I should be sleeping now... Hope you have some great sunny week in your corner of the world :)

  • Week 16 - Vet - Aenjo
This was a beat I did a while ago for an hour challenge of taking someone's discord profile picture and making a beat out of it! Aenjo had a fun jelly fish looking guy with cute eyes, I decided to base a whole beat around him, making it whimsical, a bit badass, and everything in between.
The synth I used that sounds bubbly is actually a sin wave that arpeggiates really fast creating an FM like effect. I really liked it and have used that technique on other synths in my future tracks. Hope you all enjoy!
Also, I'll be commenting more from now on and going back to old comments to respond. I've been super busy with a lot of different projects, and trying to stay afloat money wise with animation/art commissions and freelance jobs.
    Stay hydrated,
