  • Week 17 - NickLong - The Rite of Jungle
A big departure for this weeks Weekly Beats
I was tasked with making a Spring themed drum and bass track and thought wouldn't it be ridiculous to create a drum and bass version of The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky (The bit in Fantasia with dinosaurs fighting)
Turns out the answer is yes it would be. So here you have a "Drill and bass" style remix of "The Glorification of the Chosen One" from the Rite of Spring.
My daughter says its the worst thing I've ever made, I'm strangely fond of it despite it being clearly horrible to listen to.
All I can say is I'm sorry...

  • Week 17 - zeropass - Vaesia Victis
I like this one. It feels like it has a better structure and whatnot. While still developing and going places. I have my own assumptions about how it could be flawed, or could be better.. but I think it's got more positive characteristics than not. It's still growth for me. Thanks for listening! Cheers!

  • Week 17 - formalprocess - Costly Cache Miss
Sometimes you get penalized for not following the usual path (a cache miss).  Like a digital road less traveled.
The track was built from this ethereal watery flushing sound.  It needed handclaps for some reason.

  • Week 17 - Super_Pig - Hollow Castle
I wanted to try and do something using a Melotron VST so I made this. Originally I was hoping to try and make it sinister but it turned into more of a Regal Feeling.
If this were to be in a game, I'd imagine it to go along to a very beige castle, where the enemies are like spirits or angels. Maybe that's just my hyperspecific vision.
    Hope you like it.

  • Week 17 - wangus - dunker tanker (2 DUNK 2 TANK)
    here it iszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
    all m8 synthesis, no samples
i feel like i'm right now at the same point with this tune as i was with the original dunk tank at the time.  it didn't really come together exactly how i'd hoped, but like, still a banger, and now I look back on dunk tank as a Certified Wangus Classic(TM).
the vision for dunker tanker was a straightforward sequel.  Fundamentally just a reinstrumentation...
The biggest change is the 160BPM kinda-halftime groove turning into a solidly downtempo groove (though with a 200BPM kick).
but vibes-wise, i like to think of it like dunk tank with the contrast slider cranked up.
