  • Week 14 - freezedream - Calling
    The Song
This week I wrote a song about how God has revealed himself to everyone through everything that he's made in creation (Romans 1:20). Everything in nature that's beautiful and amazing and intriguing and terrifying was made by him and so were we, as humans. But unlike the rest of creation, humans were made in his image. We were designed to have a perfect, intimate relationship with him - that's what we were meant for. Our sin has ruined and severed that relationship, but through Jesus he's calling us back...

I'm still experimenting with breakbeats. My 14 year old son says all my music sounds the same and has too much going on. I don't really care - I'm enjoying the learning process. :]
This was the closest I've come to not finishing anything for Weekly Beats. Despite it being Easter and having time off from work, I still had pretty much just a loop by Sunday afternoon. But for better or worse I was determined to try to turn it into a song. I don't want to leave things so late again or put so much pressure on myself. It wasn't fun for my family, either! I had to throw the lyrics together and record vocals pretty quickly and it came down to the wire, but I got there in the end. Happy listening!

    verse 1
    See the stars
    The universe
    Oceans too vast
    To fathom
    And though He knows
    My every thought
    He still stoops down
    To save me
    chorus
God's calling you to be more human
He's calling you to lift your head
    You're a masterpiece, a poem
He designed your heart to follow
And He's calling you to live for Him
    verse 2
    Amidst the wind
    The breath of life
    A still small voice
    Beside you
    Within the ache
    For something more
    He'll give you rest
    And hold you

  • Week 14 - Water_Feature - Palm Set
thought I'd have more time for music over the easter holidays but it didn't work out that way.. dug out a goofy WIP from earlier this year and gave it a little polish. M8, old guitar samples with a ton of minidisc self noise, lossy, some seagulls

  • Week 14 - brian botkiller - Battle Race 1989
Synthwave this week. Definitely inspired by the fact that I played a Dark/Synthwave show in Phoenix last night. Bit outside my normal key and even song style, which I like.

  • Week 14 - coolsa - Odd Setup
Well, couldn't get the sampler thing to work (and I'm unfamiliar with LMMS), so I'll try re-sampling my songs in the future... Maybe.

  • Week 14 - home taping association - untitled 4
ok so I really need to get a proper piece together next week.  again day-to-day life seemed to sap up anytime I had for wb.
spent the weekend without internet so spent the time looking at aum on my iPhone.  been meaning to try and figure it out for a while.  and I came up with this random noise loop.  dark park, fugue, vhs synth, koala and a piano.
it's out of time but I'm happy I got the jam to even work in the first place!
I promise I'll have a full song next week.  with y'know, like, a guitar and a melody and silly effects pedals and stuff.  and probably my gen loss.  most definitely my gen loss.

  • Week 14 - laguna - Spectral mishmash
Not much privacy or "me" time this week, since I'm at work. At least now it is socially accepted to be into yout phone (like many of my workmates do) so I silently watch Revision 2026.
Extra love for the Demoscene. They showed me what a tracker was, back in the 90s, and I'll be eternally grateful for that :)
I was really fortunate to find two completely independent projects from 2025 that somewhat matched together (do they?): one Cardinal synth loop and some beats constructed from the forgotten Yamaha A3000 factory CD library. Both were created on Renoise 3.1.1, and mastered in Ableton Live Lite 10.
I didn't had my usual mastering chain available, so I had to build some sort of compressor/limiter using 2 instances of Ableton's compressor.
Is it just me or Native Instruments plugins are somewhat overated? (their "transient" family left me with somewhat of a "meh" feeling)
Enough rant. Just 4 more days on duty and I'll return home.
Be happy and well, WB friends !!!

  • Week 14 - jemmons - Asphalt Shriek
I’ve never really understood wavetable synthesis. I mean, I get the concept. I just don’t know how to use it to great (or even good) effect.
When wavetables came to the Tonverk, I thought “Now’s the time to dive in.” Predictable results.
I must have remade the lead in this 20 times. With all their harmonics, I just don’t have an intuition for designing wavetables to fit in a mix like I do with regular subtractive, FM, or even additive. And as a result this is kind of a mess. I spend so much time just wrestling with sound that I didn’t have time to take another few passes on the temp melody I wrote in back on monday.
To be clear, I’m not complaining. *I* learned a bunch about wavetables. *And* about the Tonverk. And had a great time doing it. It’s y’all that are stuck listening to a kind of shrieky song. And for that I apologize :-)
