  • Week 14 - Mockq - Kairos
Again not very creative, just playing some clips together but i like the result at the end, not focussing on my drums - i know Ashtom :-)..
A friend told me about Kairos, meaning a point of the time where you might change something and that's what i have in mind - to give my live a new direction. Enjoy and have a lovely week!

  • Week 14 - Phevnil - Thin Bones
I did penance for "ruining" my previous track with that "horrible bell lead" (no one is saying this*) by, on multiple occasions, throwing a bunch of shit out to keep this simple.
*well, one friend kinda said it. Just not on here. No one has commented on it here. Out of politeness and an inability to sit through the track, I presume. Understandable.
Haha jk, I still fucked around, though in a less obnoxious manner.

  • Week 14 - MRDRCAT - Let's See What's Going On
The base for this one is a jam I did on Xynthesizr years ago. I discovered the WAV, which was WAY too long, and imported it into the M8 for chopping and accompaniment. I had the bones sketched out and started noodling with it some more in January, figuring if I needed a last-minute track I could have this one in my back pocket. Well, I'm not done fiddling with it, but this past week has been hectic...
We got our seasonal ice storm on Thursday. Last year we lost 2 trees, a huge branch punched a hole in our garage roof, and another hit the power line going into the house. This year, TWO holes punched into the garage roof and another branch narrowly missed our power line. We are down 6 trees and the whole place is a mess. Then Friday night I discovered that the flashing around our chimney has dissolved, so water was leaking into the attic. At midnight. And it's just been days of yard and roof work, continuing after I hit Submit on this one.
I really liked how the Xynthesizr part is a little wonky, time-wise. The original tempo is 118bpm, which I matched on the M8, but using the app without regard to a normal beat or any plans to do more with it meant some of the "hero" notes are not where they should go, which to me makes it more interesting - it's stuff I would 100% shy away from when deliberately writing something. This is a longer one for me, and more traditionally dance/club-ish, so I tried to include a bunch of stuff to keep the variations coming and make stuff interesting.
For some reason, this one took a lot of tweaking and fiddling to get sounds right, make room for stuff, keep things moving and balanced, and generally make it as clean as possible. Lots of track juggling to fit parts in, and my bass patch needed some TLC after one of the firmware updates because the oscillator got weird after 8 steps and needed to be synced. I've been poking at it every single week since January. The vocal sample is from a 1940 film short/advertisement for eyeglasses called "Fitting Faces" (in the public domain). So, if it's okay, we'll butt in for a minute and see what's going on!

  • Week 14 - A-Cow - What I like best
Sort of chill house thing again. Broke my streak of successively warmer vibes but it did snow today in Edinburgh so I guess that’s allowed. It’s going to be 17 degrees on Tuesday so maybe I’ll get back to hotter sounds soon.
    Hope everyone is well.

  • Week 14 - MyloWhyTho - PASSIVE AGGRESSION (Extended Mix)
I was in my feelings this week and figured I'd work through that with some sonic chaos (per usual?). Will you be scared? Perhaps. Will you dance? Hopefully!
    Breakdown:
-Syntakt covering all of the percussion and most of the higher register tones.
-M8 is adding a bit of distortion/chorus to the Syntakt as well as covering any and all of some nasty bass you might catch as you listen.
-Syntakt has a MIDI track to take advantage of having a few knobs to tweak for the M8 bass while I jam out.
-Finally, had a one-man dance party in my living room, recorded the live jam to my iPhone, threw it into Ableton, chopped it up, and tweaked to taste.
p.s. ~ a lovely community sample from Discord user @Eretsua was used for a couple transition points and added in post.

  • Week 14 - PeterM - KITCHENCHAOS
Just another little quick tune this week. Used some found sounds for some percussion (tapping a kitchen bowl) and again leaned on the uke for the musical bits. Just a busy time at the moment, but I hope to be able to dedicate a bit more of myself to music in the coming weeks. Thanks for listening!

  • Week 14 - theagainagain - in groove
More exploring the neck of the bass. Trying to expand out of the box. I have a send bus that I sent keys and bass to that had an instance of dubstation 2 running.
