  • Week 14 - nukecult - Timebastard
Another struggle of a week, there are some things I like there, but not very proud of the final result. At the end I just tried to have fun, which is what this is about, specially with the shitty weeks I am having at work.

  • Week 14 - clonedkitty - Ambient Shrine
Some singing bowl and chime samples combined with pads. I learned a little bit about how to clean up background noise with EQ but eventually might invest in a denoiser. I will probably end up making more of these, just because I am very particular when listening to ambient music and certain instruments ruin the vibe for me (death to flutes!).

  • Week 14 - george bowles - raising spirits
i recorded some guitar this week and started creating a whole new album of guitar with percussion and other elements. i found a whole album's worth of guitar tracks that i did earlier this year. rather than using the guitar track i recorded this week, i wanted to share this other one i finished because it sounds pretty crazy, mystical, magical, hopefully intriguing.

  • Week 14 - spry - Measured Approach (WB14)
Spent a little bit more time on this one than last week. But not a lot more time :D
About 30 minutes writing patterns. The melody popped into my head while I was cooking and I jotted it down to come back to it. About 30 minutes figuring out a structure and another 30 minutes doing the mixing and adjusting. Total work time about an hour and a half.

  • Week 14 - vinh.ty - Brooding
    › Notes‹ Notes
Last week I attempted another challenge and tried bringing an idea to fruition, but I lacked a clear vision for how the track would sound. Although I tried to push forward with one idea, I didn't think it sounded very cohesive and ultimately abandoned it toward the end of the week. A failure in that I didn't submit the previous week, but not a failure in that I learned more about my process, my current limitations, and that I've bounced back this week.
This week, I went with a (relatively) simpler challenge of writing in an odd time signature, and was able to deliver well enough (I hope) with this track, which features sections of 7/8. I think this is the first time I've written and produced anything in this time signature, so I'm pretty happy I managed to put something solid together in a short amount of time.

  • Week 14 - Mulkaccino - Unbroken Woods
I'm incredibly happy with the way this turned out (but am always looking for feedback!). I feel like this culminated in a style that represents my desires in making music: atmospheric, driving, complex, building, and layered. I'd love to make music to long scenes in videography (animations, film, shorts) or levels/areas in video games/interactive fiction.
This was mostly composed on a Roli Seaboard 2 in groups of 6 bars of 3/8 time, which is what gives it that rushed feeling. 3/8s is weird. Audio leveling was really hard, and I still don't feel like I got it right, especially around the transitions.
All audio samples are public domain, including this picture from Anton Atanasov on Pexels, which I feel captures a bit of the mood of the piece:

  • Week 14 - Cosmic Cairns - Elevation
I had a couple of sketches of ideas floating around that I merged together and fleshed out to make the music.  Then when it came time to come up with some lyrics, I started thinking about an early morning scene and just sort of improvised from there.
    ________________________________________________________________________________
When the Eastern sky begins to glow
And the blades of grass are glistening with dew
Hear the songs that only the morning birds know
As the goddess of dawn walks beside you
    Into the day
And the old growth trees are all tuning in
To a signal sourced from places unknown
And you soar through clouds to elevations
Where you occupy a world of your own
    And float away
Come float away, come float away
Come float away, come float away
Air currents flow, they crest and they fall
Brisk eddies whirl then slow to a crawl
    And I remember peculiar times
    Lost past distant horizons
It seems I've been dead to you most of my life
    Except for rare frigid environs
And I know not where the story will go
Every pathway stretches out far and wide
We'll end up where the cold wind chooses to blow
And another soul might float alongside you
    In the dawn

  • Week 14 - Ruffian Price - Multi-Level Car Park
Best way I can describe this is industrial garage. Put together parts that are typical for the genre but with drums cut out of FX loops from Minimal Audio's free samples
