After 11 a.m. on Monday, October 12th, a woman called 911 to say her nephew was off his medication but "not violent", and at about 1:25 p.m., according to the criminal complaint, Thomas Steele killed his aunt and grandmother in Mobile, Alabama, with a chainsaw. He's charged with two counts of capital murder, and a judge has ordered him committed to the Alabama Department of Mental Health for an inpatient competency evaluation.

Three children came home to the Hobe Sound Mobile Home Park on Thursday, October 8th, to find the bedroom forced open and their kittens gone, and that night Martin County deputies dug two of them out of the backyard alive. Alba Chavez, who the sheriff says told deputies she thought the kittens had demons, was arrested on four felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty, and a fifth kitten is still missing.
