    Across Wisconsin, abandoned houses sit quietly along rural roads, slowly being reclaimed by nature. Some have been empty for decades. Step inside, and you may find calendars still hanging on the walls, family photographs left behind, clothes in closets, letters, books, and possessions belonging to people who seemingly walked away and never returned. Why are these houses still standing? What happened to the people who lived there? And what is it like to walk into a home that has been frozen in time for 50 years? In this episode, I talk with two Wisconsin urban explorers who spend their time researching, photographing, and documenting abandoned houses across the state. We explore how they find these forgotten places, what they discover inside, the history these houses can preserve, and why explorers are so protective of their locations. We also get into the dangers and ethics of exploring abandoned properties, what happens when these pieces of Wisconsin history disappear, and a few experiences inside these houses that are much harder to explain.
