  • Thoughts on Ego with Logan Gelbrich

We ask Logan Gelbrich founder of Deuce Gym and Captain of the process, on his thoughts on how our ego can hinder our performance and sabotage the path to performance and with that in mind what we can do to get the ego out of the way to do what we actually want to do which is improve and move forward. This episode of Thoughts on follows the Finding Flow podcast with Jamie Wheal as we pondered and chatted with listeners on the often blind obsession that can come with finding flow and being our best. Usually a result of our ego getting in the way. It might sound like we are in two different places during this podcast and that’s because we are. Using the power of technology to connect the weMove world together. We record these not as a conversation but as a series of emailed questions the guest records the answers to in the comfort of their own home. Follow logan @functionalcoach

  • The Rewire Project - Tony Molina - Episode 36

Following on from Finding Flow with Jamie Wheal we bring you the second podcast from our California and Texas trip, this time with the guy who has changed our ideas on fitness and health more than any other.

We describe him to others as a real life Jason Bourne, Tony Molina, founder of the Rewire Project began life in Marine Reconnaisance, endured more than most crossing countries at speed and then found himself wanting to understand more about his own physical performance in order to support others to get out there rather than watch vicariously on a screen.

The Rewire Project his boutique health and fitness space looks like no other gym we have set foot in, there are no free weights, no tredmills or rowing machines, and yet here you will boost your systemic health, increase your performance and develop the skills to do things that you never perhaps thought you would, getting out of your comfort zone and making the choice whether to thrive or survive.

In fact the testing workout which Tony had us do was probably the most intense session we have done, the run we then went on with him gave us a rude awakening in to how inefficiently we breath through our nose and set us on a direct course to become more physically and psychologically prepared for the world around us, and eager to continue to rewire our brains and bodies to get the most out of what we were born with.

The podcast covers the routes to good health, what is happening in the paradigm of health and fitness and why the old paradigm of diet and exercise that has been engrained in our culture is missing one vital part which is holding us back from moving forward. Our ability to Adapt.

So much of the research that we are reading and hearing about focuses on the brain, how we can develop our brain to reduce injury, illness and boost strength, ability and much more. It is the driver to everything we do and yet the last part to be worked on.

In our session with Tony before the podcast, he had taken us through a new method called Postural Alignment which connects the information the eyes see and the feet feel to give a clearer picture to the brain as to what needs to be done. Within five minutes our aching joints and symptoms of historical injuries had disappeared and our strength had increased, without lifting weights and with no painkillers. It has to be experienced or at least seen to be believed but these are techniques which the right osteopath, physio and trainer can learn and incorporate into their treatments and for us regular folk, learn and practice in our daily lives.

In Tony’s words we survive best when we are a little bit cold and a little bit hungry.

Get your notebook ready and enjoy what you are about to hear.

  • Finding Flow with Jamie Wheal - Episode 35

Can you remember the last time you were in the zone? Where you forgot completely about what you were doing, time both stood still and flew by and you felt like you could carry on without stopping?

Well that experience is known as Flow or the Flow State, and it can be accessed at will when you understand how and even more so it can create a way of living which provides a level up from the daily grind.

As we explore in this weeks podcast with Jamie Wheal, founder of the leading research and experience facility the Flow Genome Project. The Flow State whilst a high performance mind “technology” can, if used inappropriately create a true disconnection with our ability as human beings in whatever we do. We cover a huge range of topics that connect being in the Flow; Burning Man, Psychedelics, action sports, the masculine and feminine, death and rebirth and much more.

A big thanks to Rich Husseiny for connecting us, and of course Jamie Wheal and the Flow Genome team.

  • Logan Gelbrich - Episode 34

This weeks pod is brought to you from the heart of Venice, Los Angeles. One of our go to places when we are in California. We have been fortunate enough to be introduced to a great group of individuals out there who are all exploring and innovating within the movement, health and adventure space.

This recording is with one of the leaders in the gym culture space, Logan Gelbrich. This is Logans second appearance on the weMove podcast and for those who don’t know him, Logan is a former pro baseball athlete, turned innovator and entrepreneur with a mission to create a gym whose culture, accelerates the development of the individuals who go, be they the coaching team or the active user.

Overtime we set foot in Deuce, there is a work ethic and focus running through everyone there. How much you lift, push, pull is irrelevant, the real marker of success we see and take inspiration from is the obsession with the process of improvement and the unrelenting dedication to show up take the necessary steps to move forward.

The by product of this attention and focus on the process invariably creates transformation in people, physically and mentally which filters throughout all areas of their lives based on the conversations we have had.

So this pod is about the process, focussing on only what is in our actual control and honing this, because the process will take us where we want to go.

  • Chris Luera aka Tatted Strength - Episode 33

This weeks’ podcast is with Chris Luera, aka Tatted Strength.

We first met Chris in 2017 when we were putting together the feature with him that appears in Issue 2. We hung out with him for an hour or so in the Sunshine of Muscle Beach LA listening to Chris’ incredible story. When we knew we would be back in that part of the world, we wanted to honour that story but putting it down on tape so to speak. We thought we knew what was coming, but we didn’t! We knew an outline of his story and not the fine details which is what you’re about to hear.

To give you a slight inkling, Chris is now the 3 x middleweight WCO calisthenics world champion. Yet, he was born a drug addict from a mother who was also born to a drug addict. Chris himself was using drugs and in gangs in his early teenage years fed by the mindset of ‘I am who I am because of where I come from’. This led Chris by the time he was in his early 20’s to having already served 10 years in and out of various prison establishments.

Listening to Chris talk at the time and re-listening to this podcast there are many subjects and tales that it’s simply hard to comprehend, yet one of the subjects that he comes back to time and time again is the love his adopted mother (his grand aunt by birth) showed him throughout his life, having adopted him as a three year old. It was ultimately that love that gave Chris the inspiration for getting to where he is today. And where Chris is today, is not only as a world champion, but also a man in service to the kid he once was, going into schools to connect and talk to those kids, to use his own words, ‘my mission is to help as many as I can’.

  • Tommy Caldwell - Episode 32

This weeks podcast is the recording of a conversation we had with Tommy Caldwell at the start of 2017. The short story behind this conversation is that we had a received an advance copy of Tommy’s book ’The Push’, had been blown away by it and had then found out he would be in Fountain Blu, a five hours drive away us, a few months later and would be available to co-create a feature with us for issue 2.

For those of you who don’t know, Tommy is the legendary climber who back in 2015 became more widely known through his first ascent of the Dawn Wall, of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley. This is widely regarded as one of the hardest climbs in the world and became worldwide headline news, but is only the tip of the iceberg in his achievements and life experiences. There’s the being kidnapped at gunpoint in the remote Ak Su Valley of Kyrgyzstan almost 20 years ago, the speed record on El Cap and various other climbing achievements throughout his career, the loss of one of his fingers in a sawing accident and a whole lot more. There’s also general conversation about fear, motivations, and the evolution of his life and career in this conversation.

The recording represents well how we spend time with people. Listening back, it sounds like a gentle relaxed conversation between friends.  It was recorded in the back garden of the AirBNB Tommy and his family were staying at. The birds are singing in the background, the sun was shining down hard, croissants on the table. We had brought friend Jules St Gerome with us; Jules being the focus of the micro adventure feature we had in the Japanese alps in Issue 1. Jules and Tommy share common ground over loss of flesh and so there’s some pondering and reflective moments in here.
