Gain All You Can

Gideon’s story takes place in a time of great danger. The Midianites are oppressing Israel, stealing livestock and destroying crops. The angel of the Lord appears to Gideon, calls him a hero and then tells him to destroy their enemy. Our hero immediately reminds the angel that his tribe is the smallest and he is the “least” in his family. Our reluctant hero also puts God to the test (wet fleece and dry fleece). But then God puts Gideon to the test and reduces his army to only 300 men. This is a great lesson for modern believers who often fear that our limitations will not allow us to serve God. Gideon shows us that God calls us in the midst of our present obedience. As we are faithful, God gives us more responsibility. God will expand and use the abilities He has already given us and will use us despite our limitations and failures.
