This sermon speaks to the difficulty of maintaining one’s faith in the face of a broken and hectic world. How do we remain strong? This will be an opportunity to talk about necessary Christian disciplines.

Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 16:13

This scripture passage is the church’s “job description.” This is the only job of the church and we need to go for the gold with it. We have to get into the deep end of the pool; we cannot wade around in the shallow end wearing floaties like toddlers. A diver must dive into the deep end; the shallow end is pain or death.

Scripture Reference: Matthew 28:18-20

We live in a very dark world, but Jesus has come to shine light. IF you believe that Jesus is the light of hope, mercy, and grace, then you will be willing to pass the light of Christ to others. Just as the Olympic torch light is fed and protected and passed so is the light of Christ. Reference 2,000 years of passing the torch, reference how Wesley has been passing the torch here at the corner of Westmeade Street and Danville Road. If we do not “carry the torch and pass the torch” then the gospel will disappear in a single generation.
