2 Corinthians 2:12-17

1.       God’s mission is our mission v. 14, Habakkuk 2

a.       We are the aroma of Christ v. 15

b.       God is on a mission to fill the earth with all his glory

c.       God put the church on this earth to accomplish his mission

d.       As we grow in Christ our character becomes more like the character of Christ and the invisible Christ becomes visible. Then God will use his found children to rescue his lost children.

2.       There is only one way to participate in this mission 

a.       To participate in God’s mission we must embrace our weakness 

                                                               i.      God triumphs over our weakness

                                                             ii.      God triumphs through our weakness

b.       We are the aroma of Christ 

How does God work through us, the church, during this divisive time?

·         when we confess our sin, we point to God’s glory

·         when we defer to each other

·         when we don’t demand our rights

·         when we choose not to make a name for ourselves

·         when we find more joy in sharing stories of God’s in our lives

·         when we tell the Christ is greater than all of our sufferings

3.       We are sufficient for this mission.

a.       Who is sufficient for these things? v. 16

b.       The answer: YOU ARE! – Christ has made you sufficient to bring life to this dead world.

We must forgive

• for the sinner's sake
• for the church's sake
• for the Lord's sake

2 Corinthians 1:12 - 2:4

I.                    Unmasks us through pain

• We Attack (v. 1:12)
• We Accuse (v. 1:13-2:4)
• We Watch

II.                  Reassures us to face pain

• Pain is real (v 2:4)
• Pain is evidence (v. 2:4)
• Shame will happen
• Associated with TRINITY (v. 1:21)

Hard times teach us to receive encouragement from God so that we can give that encouragement to others.

Consider these two questions:

1. When people are around us discouraged or encouraged or somewhere in the middle?
2. What would your life be like if Jesus had been unwilling to go to the cross where he was without any encouragement from his heavenly father?
