How marvellous is God's creation of man! First, the simple fact that God made us is marvellous. Just think of it! From eternity, there was this glorious triune God… He was complete… yet… He decided to create the universe. He thought all of this up—every bit of it. And most remarkable of all, He made man.

God is the one who brought the material world into being—out of nothing. This is a very wonderful thing. God made it all. You see His power. You see His wisdom and imagination. You see His love and goodness… all the things that are made for us. We ought to worship and give thanks to Him and trust Him when we consider the things that He has made.

God plans His work (Q. 7) and works His plan (Q. 8). He works His plan by creation (He made all that is) and by providence (He works out His plan with what He has made). Today, we are going to look at what it is to have a God who executes His decrees.

What is a decree? It is the plan and purpose the an authority speaks into effect. The centurion who came to Jesus for the healing of his servant understood this. He reasoned that just as he could speak things into being as a military officer by commanding those under his authority, so Jesus could command healing! God's decrees are like the decree of a king, only much greater and encompassing.
