UW-Parkside's Debra Karp previews next Wednesday's Nonprofit Leadership Conference - and we hear from Dr. Undraye Howard, who will be the keynote speaker for the event.  This year's conference is focused on the importance of EDI - Equity, Diversity and Inclusion - in non-profits.  

Tamara Winfrey Harris, author of "The Sisters are Alright: Changing the Broken Narrative of Black Women in America."  Harris's 2015 book has just been re-released in an expanded second edition.  

Best-selling author Tom Clavin discusses his latest book,  "Lightning Down: A World War Ii Story of Survival."  It recounts the story of more than 150 downed Allied pilots who were taken to a concentration camp rather than a P.O.W. camp- and how the vast majority managed to survive such brutal treatment.  

Rita Hagen, executive director of Kenosha Hospice Alliance, talks about their "Ring and Remember" event on Thursday.  Also with us is Sherrie Barch, author of "Heaven's Bell."  She is coming to Kenosha on Wednesday at the invitation of Kenosha Hospice Alliance for a discussion and book signing.  Both events are at Kemper Center's Founder's Hall at 5:00 - the book signing on Wednesday and Ring & Remember on Thursday.

He discusses a report from EMSI titled "The Demographic Drought" which explores and explains the widespread and worsening labor market woes where so many employers across so many sectors of the economy are experiencing serious talent shortages.

We speak with Jesse Morton, a former recruiter for Al-Qaeda, and Tony McAleer, a former white supremacist.   They made a presentation at Carthage College titled "Out of Hatred."  They are both involved in outreach efforts to help people to leave hate groups and find their way back into the wider society.   

We preview the PBS documentary "The Oratorio- with Martin Scorcese," which looks back at a dramatic concert that took place at the old St. Patrick's Cathedral in November of 1826 -  believed to be the first occasion on which operatic-style singing was publicly performed in New York City.  The concert was recently re-created, thanks to assistance from an Italian opera company.  

We discuss the latest installment in Carthage's New Play Initiative,  "Patience and Fortitude."  We speak with its author,  Arlene Hutton,  and the guest director of the production,  Mary Macdonald Kerr.  The production opens this weekend.  (It's the 13th work to emerge from the New Play Initiative, which began back in 2009.)
