As a girl Heather Holleman was a complainer, a gossiper, used foul language, couldn’t connect with anybody. But now as an Associate Teaching Professor of English at Penn State, she’s leading colleagues and students into the love of Jesus. The difference is Jesus but it has also been the hard work of learning how to connect at a deep heart level in all her relationships.
And Heather captures all her lessons learned in her new book, The Six Conversations: Pathways to Connecting in an Age of Isolation & Incivility. First, Heather’s life-giving connection with an Uber driver. Then, the moment God awakened Heather from her slumber of self-absorption. Next, in our cancel culture of anger, depression, anxiety, and unforgiveness, what we long for most is warm connections with fellow human beings!
Then, Heather’s atheist colleague who loves hearing about Jesus and so many of her students who come to her asking why she loves and believes in Jesus. Next, believing the best in others. Then, how to have conversations with people who are really uncomfortable opening up. Then, 3 questions our culture desperately needs right now. Last, if you’re afraid of deep conversation or you just feel you’re not conversation gifted, you can learn. Really!
