June 19, 2020Robert Lee Yates "The Spokane Serial Killer"How do you go from being a decorated war hero and family man, to targeting sex workers in serial killings? We'll never get an answer from Robert Lee Yates, Jr who currently sits in Washington State Penitentiary without possibility of parole for his part in 13 horrible murders. Yates was able to lead a double life and get away with it for a few years. Most any one you speak to that knew him never thought he would be capable of the crimes he admitted to, including his very own wife who had no idea that a victim was buried in her own backyard for quite some time. The horrible crimes he committed raised fear in the Spokane community for 2 years before the killing spree would end. Join us for a look at his crimes and how he was eventually caught. Some info from this episode:http://heraldnet.com/new/yates-wife-visits-him-and-asks-why/http://murderpedia.org/male.Y/y/yates-robert-lee.htmhttp://maamodt.asp.radford.edu/Psyc%20405/serial%20killers/Yates,%20Robert%20Lee.pdfhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Lee_YatesLifetime Movie Network "Monster in my family"https://www.mylifetime.com/shows/monster-in-my-familySerial Killer Robert Lee Yates Documentaryhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4nWd-VDu0I...more56minPlay
June 05, 2020The Bellvue murdersThis episode takes us back to Bellevue for another family murdered by 2 young kids. The Wilson family was brutally murdered in 1997; the reason? Well, some teenage boys were "in a rut". Alex Baranyi, Jr and David Anderson would be convicted for the crimes, both at the age of 17. We talk a little bit on the similarities to The Rafay Family Murder from Episode 4 and we wonder, was this a copycat crime or a coincidence? In this case, it's very clear, these were kids with killing on their minds. Join us as we discuss the dark details in this week's episode of What Happens in the Woods. Some info from this episode:http://murderpedia.org/male.B/b/baranyi-alex.htmhttp://murderpedia.org/male.A/a/anderson-david.htmhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellevue_murdershttps://www.swordandscale.com/the-wilson-family-murders/...more44minPlay

May 15, 2020The murdering Roth brothersJoin us this episode as we talk about brothers Randolph and David Roth, convicted murderers in the state of Washington. Their crimes were separate and unrelated, however it led us to ask the question: Can being a murderer be a genetic trait? We learn about the use of a peacock feather as a way to convince a stranger to have sex and discuss why the 80's were a horrible time for hairstyles and meeting possible spouses. They say there comes a time when everything comes full circle. This episode is that moment for our podcast. (Don't ask who "they" is, we don't know) It seems to us that the connections in the Pacific Northwest are tight between killers and there is no shortage of similarities to be found among them. As always, the saying remains true...Stay out of the woods! Some info from this episode:murderpedia.orgwikipedia.orgseattletimes.com...more1h 10minPlay
May 01, 2020"The Barfly Killer" Richard MarquetteThis episode goes back a few decades but the details are still just as chilling.Richard Laurence Marquette liked to meet women in bars and would be the prime example of why you should never go home with a stranger. He was a young man when he committed an incredibly horrific murder after a night of bar hopping. But what would you say if we told you that while he was convicted if 1st degree manslaughter (and sentenced to life in prison) just 11 short years later he was released and would commit a similar crime? Investigators would claim he was calm and even keeled while psychiatrists that evaluated him declared he was "emotionally disturbed". Eventually Marquette would murder 3 women in total in the state of Oregon before being sentenced for the second time to life in prison...this time with no possibility of parole.Join us as we discuss the list of his crimes and some of the unusual details. Some info from this episode:www.oregonlive.comwww.murderpedia.orgwikipedia.org...more44minPlay
