Sandi stood in the line next to her 5th grade peers. Name after name was called by the two team captains. It was recess, and sighs of relief and angst, barely audible, pricked the playground air. Sandi knew she'd be called close to last, but at least Don was here today.
He ran slower than she did and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a ball, even when he tried. She blushed at her judgmental thought, pushed it away, and prayed instead, "Lord, don't let me be last," and as an afterthought, "Please help Don get better at kickball, but not so much better I get called last." Many adults have memories like this from their childhood - and to this day, still deal with feeling unwanted or unloved. Can you relate? Tune into today's episode of What to Say & How to Say It!
