What was the significance of Jesus' circumcision and naming? Luke 2:21 says, “At the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.” This ceremony of circumcision was a command from Genesis 17. It would have identified Him with Abraham's family and the Jewish people. Circumcision was something that every Jewish bot experienced. The name Jesus, meaning “the Lord saves,” was announced, highlighting His divine mission. It was the name God told his parents to give Him. Despite suspicion from the community, Mary and Joseph faithfully followed God's commands, marking Jesus as the promised Savior from birth.
