In this powerful episode of What’s Behind The Bra? – Healing Stories, host Monique Bass sits down with breast cancer survivor, advocate, entrepreneur, keynote speaker, and author Yakima Deloatch for a deeply moving conversation about generational breast cancer, resilience, and rising after loss.
Yakima’s journey is layered with legacy.
After watching her mother battle and ultimately pass away from breast cancer, Yakima faced her own diagnosis — confronting the very fear she once witnessed up close. But instead of allowing fear to define her, she chose to rise.
Like a phoenix.
In this episode, Yakima shares:
• Who she was before diagnosis • Being diagnosed at a young age • The emotional weight of losing her mother to breast cancer • Whether genetic testing was discussed • Her treatment journey and recovery • Navigating survivorship and lymphedema awareness • Turning pain into purpose • Leading one of New Jersey’s largest Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks • Building The Pink Escape — a luxury travel experience for survivors celebrating life and sisterhood
With over 15 years of expertise in partnerships and brand development — working with companies like Samsung, AWS, and LinkedIn — Yakima has blended corporate leadership with heartfelt advocacy.
Her story has been featured on Dr. Oz, ABC News, The Wendy Williams Show, and more — but in this conversation, we go beyond the headlines.
This episode is about:
Legacy. Breaking generational fear. Reclaiming joy. And discovering what strength truly lives behind the bra.
If you or someone you love has been impacted by breast cancer, this conversation will move you.
