Robert Hunter is a star example of the kind of candidate we love—a person who is a known entity locally for the organizing and activism they participate in long before they run for office. ALHD-28 has a high concentration of Democrats but no local Democratic Infrastructure. It is not an anomaly, unfortunately as these places exist all around the country across the south to places like Ohio. Republican candidates often run unopposed and voter turnout is super low.

Robert is out to change that. With the help of his local and the National DSA, he is showing up and putting in the footwork (literally). He tells us how he spends his campaign funds on person to person contact rather than TV ads. Just like he did when there was no one to lead Pride celebrations in his hometown, Robert is stepping up and taking the lead. Its an effort that seems Herculean, but is vitally important if we are serious about making lasting change for folks. The fact is, with just a little support, there are so many Democrats in the district, he could win easily if he can just get the word out.
