    Good times tonight on the podcast! Today's guest, Zackery "Zack" Mack-Westrom, brought his guitar and some tracks and treated us to a 4 song mini-concert of a few of his original tunes! Originally from the East Bay in the Bay Area, Zack has traveled both nationally and internationally in his very capable capacity as a musician, vocalist, and producer. In 2019, he released an album entitled "From the Block to the Beach" which you can find on Spotify and on AppleMusic.

    In His Own Words:

    Zack believes that music is best used as a conduit to heal the human soul. Zack began taking piano lessons at age 7, and has been playing guitar professionally since the age of 18. With a solid background in the blues, and Jazz, as well as modal music; Zack was awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston. After Berklee, Zack held down 2-3 gospel gigs each Sunday in East Oakland CA, where some of the best players in the world have honed their respective crafts. Timing, feel, a discriminating ear, chops for days, and a highly developed understanding of music theory are all strong points of Zack’s musicianship. Zack has gigged and with Soul artist Goapele, Superstar Ryan Leslie, Boots Riley of the Coup, Vernon Hall, and countless others in his national, and extended Bay Area musical family. He most recently toured the Middle East in 2012 with the awesome pop band 'Atomic Milkshake.'
    In addition to his artistic side, Zackery Mack-Westrom has extensive quantitative experience. He has worked as both a housing counselor, and Foreclosure Intervention program manager at the San Francisco Housing Development Corporation. Mr. Mack-Westrom's work draws on his talented use of a multi-faceted skill set: a broad understanding of economic driving factors such as 'real' homeownership costs, Gross vs. Net Income, Taxation, Legal Protection (Chapter filing), and Net Present Valuation calculations, for example. His work as both a foreclosure intervention expert and financial analyst has allowed Mr. Mack-Westrom to both effectively asses clients' needs, as well as to implement a strategy on a larger level with a focus on shaping policy in underserved communities.
    Low—to middle-income borrowers received comprehensive debt counseling, with recommendations on how to best approach financial institutions and, in good faith, attempt to gain assistance with mortgage loans that have become untenable due to financial hardship, illness, or a combination of challenging economic factors. Zackery Mack-Westrom's work has resulted in cumulative borrower savings greater than $20 million. Mr. Mack-Westrom prides himself on serving others.
    Zack holds a B.A. in philosophy from University of California – Santa Cruz, and endorses Zen Philosophy and practice. He is an avid student of Yoga and yogic/buddhist philosophy and practice.

    Our guest today is a San Francisco Broadcast Legend, a retired college instructor/engineer/broadcaster/announcer/radio manager, a father, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather, Dan Odum!!
    At the time of this recording (which is our first remote podcast recording!), Dan is 95 years old and full of recollections, stories, and memories of his life experiences which he shares with Steve from the comfort of his home in San Carlos, CA.
    During our time with him, he shared his experiences growing up in North Carolina, his time in the Navy on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War, his pursuit of music and broadcasting, and teaching radio broadcasting at the College of San Mateo!
    This time was a real treat and exploration of the past through the eyes of one Daniel Odum.

    Amrit is such a pleasure to be with and talk to and tonight's podcast was no exception! He's been a client of mine since December of 2023 and I always look forward to catching up with him when he comes in. We spoke about his childhood and early formative years in music; he started quite early learning instruments and then participating in musical projects and bands.     "My musical journey began at the age of 8, when I obtained my first drum-set. My desire to make music something more than a hobby has grown ever since. I have taken on several new challenges since then, learning instruments such as vocals, guitar, bass, piano, vibraphone, xylophone, marimba, and various auxiliary percussion instruments. At Santa Teresa High School, I was in the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Marching Band. I currently attend West Valley College and am working towards a double major in Music. I’ve been a part of the West Valley Jazz Ensemble, and College Chorale. I gig regularly around the Bay Area in a number of groups, and churches. I have dreams of being a studio drummer for as many groups as possible, running my own studio, traveling the world, and spreading the knowledge and love for music along the way with everyone!"

    Casey Frazier is a local singer/songwriter/producer who has his roots in Colorado and Tennessee and those roots are very evident in his music. During the podcast, Casey shares a few of his songs with us and it's really a treat!

    Casey Frazier could sing before he could write his own name. He hit his first snare drum at the age of three and picked up the guitar at the age of five. It became apparent very early on that the tunesmith was destined for a life of song. The artful skill of combining well-written lyrics with tried and true musical composition has given Casey opportunities to perform with the likes of Kenny Rogers and Mandy Moore. In 2009, his music was featured in the major motion picture, “Teenage Dirtbag”, launching thousands of YouTube hits, covers of “Elysian Fields”, and gaining him comparisons to Ryan Adams and Josh Rouse. In March of 2013, Casey released Regal his most honest effort yet. The album can best be described as modern Americana with roots in ‘70s country and alternative rock. From the first note of Cradle to the Grave’s haunting melody to the hopeful chords in Walkin’ a Line, Casey has managed to find a space that is completely his own while still paying homage to those who have come before him.

    This podcast was such a pleasure to do! This young man is driven. Growing up in Salinas, John made his mark as a successful athlete at Salinas High School. With a dream of being an Olympian and passion for pole vault, he set school, county, and regional records. John attended Cal Poly on a pole vault scholarship and majored in agricultural systems and management. After college, John moved to Arizona to train at a private track and field training facility. Needing money to support his track and field passion, John got a job working for a private equity fund that purchased and developed land into farmland, owning and/or selling to larger groups. Initially, utilizing his engineering experience within the company and soon worked on small then large-scale acquisition projects. Training from 7am-12pm then working, absorbing information, and learning from his mentors he would eventually venture off and start his own business.
