  • The Leading Edge with Holly Ransom

In this final episode of the What's NXT Podcast Season 1, we have the absolute pleasure of speaking to Holly Ransom, a globally renowned keynote speaker, disruption strategist and advocate for social and economic inclusion. We tackled all things leadership - diversity, bias, change, innovation, ideas and much more. We also had a chance to talk about her book, The Leading Edge, and how you can discover how to first lead yourself, then others through its three principles – mindset, method and mastery. You can purchase a copy of her book, The Leading Edge here.

    About Holly Ransom

Holly Ransom is a globally renowned content curator, powerful speaker and master interviewer with the belief that if you walk past it, you tell the world it’s okay. Named one of Australia’s 100 Most Influential Women by the Australian Financial Review, she has delivered a Peace Charter to the Dalai Lama, was Sir Richard Branson’s nominee for Wired Magazine’s ‘Smart List’ of Future Game Changers to watch and was awarded the US Embassy’s Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Leadership Excellence in 2019. Having interviewed the likes of Barack Obama, Malcolm Gladwell, Richard Branson, Billie Jean-King, Condoleezza Rice, Nobel Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus and the world’s first humanoid robot Sophia, Holly fights complexity with curiosity, apathy with empowerment and fear with fact.

As a Fulbright scholar and Harvard Kennedy School Class of ’21 fellow, Holly is a recipient of the prestigious Anne Wexler Public Policy Scholarship, allowing her to action social and economic inclusion by connecting people with the decisions that affect their lives. Having released her book The Leading Edge, Holly helps people harness their own potential to lead by asking better questions, thinking beyond biased answers and building collective momentum for change. The Leading Edge is part of Holly's broader belief that we need to democratise leadership learning and break open elite leadership discourse to fire up every individual to catalyse change.

Holly was identified early as a dynamic thought leader, asked to Co- Chair the G20 Youth Summit in 2014, the United Nations Coalition of Young Women Entrepreneurs in 2016, and becoming the youngest Director ever to be appointed to an Australian Football Club, the mighty Port Adelaide. Holly’s podcast ‘Coffee Pods’ was named in the top ten business podcasts to listen to by the Sydney Morning Herald in 2018, and Holly has been recognised as a LinkedIn Influencer and a must-read content producer by the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Herself an accomplished company director, Holly has compressed a power-packed career into a decade, spanning corporate, non-profit and public sectors. As founder and CEO of consulting firm Emergent, Holly has led real-world results with clients such as P&G, Microsoft, Virgin, Cisco and KPMG. Holly has also been a regular on the likes of The Drum and QandA. As a proud champion for diversity and inclusion, Holly is Chair of Pride Cup Australia, a non-profit organisation (and movement) devoted to challenging LGBTI+ discrimination within sporting clubs - and create welcoming and supportive environments for LGBTI participation and fans. A two-time Ironwoman, Holly loves to cook, dance and sing... despite her complete lack of talent at all three.

She also chatted about StageSHIFT, how it's different from other people's or theorists models and how it is being applied by leadership consultants and coaches.

    • Leadership and AI with Carl Sanders-Edwards

Join Pete and Dave in this podcast episode as they chat with Carl Sanders - Edwards, CEO and Founder of Adeption, about Scaling, Vertical Development, and AI. Carl is driven to make Leadership Development that works vastly more accessible and he has over 20 years experience doing this with global organisations and start-ups. Know more about Adeption and how they build leaders with more capability and capacity through a blend of synchronous and asynchronous coaching embedding the vertical principles of perspective, heat, and reflection.

      About Carl Sanders-Edwards

Carl wants to democratize leadership development.  He brings a unique perspective to this challenge with experience from manufacturing, software development, leadership and innovation.

Carl has a Manufacturing Engineering undergraduate degree and started his career working with continuous improvement teams in Toyota and Fisher & Paykel (white ware manufacturer).  Following this he spent five years with Accenture leading teams that developed software, business process and strategy solutions for a wide range of organizations in New Zealand, Australia and Canada.

Moving to the UK, he developed the management systems that enabled start-up RightMove.co.uk to grow from no revenue to a US billion dollar IPO within three years.  Inspired by technology, on returning to New Zealand, Carl co-founded, grew and sold New Zealand’s largest online gift store (at the time); browniepoints.co.nz.

Carl has since brought together principles of lean manufacturing and agile software development to assist 100’s of organizations from startups to multinationals.  He has helped them define their identity, develop strategies, coach leaders and deliver projects to improve performance.  Through these engagements Carl recognized a common theme – successful organizations need people with continually improving leadership skills at every level.  A particularly influential experience was creating a learning and development strategy for an investment company in the Middle East who wanted to develop its own CEO’s rather than hire externals.

Unsatisfied with the existing leadership development offerings Carl founded JumpShift.co.nz in New Zealand.  From this base Carl has founded the technology platform Adeption.io, now based in San Francisco to deliver scalable Leadership Development coaching.  Adeption.io leverages AI with an engaging app, micro learning and behavior change theory to take leadership development from classroom theory into a daily practice.

Carl has a Fulbright Scholarship in Entrepreneurship with an MBA from Babson College in Mass US where he graduated with various awards and publications including class Valedictorian.

    • VUCA Skills and Leading in Complexity with Dr. Theo Dawson

Award-winning educator, scholar, & consultant, Dr. Theo Dawson, discusses a wide range of topics related to learning and development. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Lectica®, a company dedicated to helping transform the way people learn everywhere.

In this podcast, we speak to her about optimising learning for working in complexity and also helping the leaders learn to be more adaptive through developing more effective VUCA skills.

      About Dr. Theo Dawson

I'm the CEO of Lectica®, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to helping the world think better by producing and distributing sophisticated learning tools that support the kind of learning that matters. https://lecticalive.org

Our non-profit mission is to deliver our learning tools free of charge to individual K-12 teachers everywhere. We support this mission through donations and our for-profit arm, the Developmental Testing Service (DTS). All of the profits from DTS are donated to Lectica.

Lectica makes diagnostic and formative learning tools for schools, colleges, and the workplace. These tools measure how well people work with their knowledge in real world contexts, identify "what comes next", and provide personalized learning recommendations. https://www.linkedin.com/company/lectica-inc

It's taken over 20 years and a fair bit of struggle to develop the technology and methods we use here at Lectica. For me, it's a sandbox. But I do have a bit of a life outside of the "nonprofit that owns me". I have 3 children and 3 grandkids to play with, and I spend a fair bit of time on the trail, on my bike, or in the garden.
