Adam Holz from Plugged In joins Perry and Shawna to talk about YouTube and our kids. YouTube is the most popular form of entertainment among tween and young teen boys, even more popular than video games. So first Adam encourages parents to become familiar with the platform. Do a search for something you’re interested in. Engage your kid with questions like: What do you watch on YouTube? Who are your favorite personalities? Talk about setting time limits on YouTube. And be aware of some of the dangerous content on the platform.
Then Shawna shares that we should expect God to do extraordinary things on ordinary days because with God ANYTHING is possible. Ask God: “Do something amazing today through me. And let others see your work in me and be filled with wonder and amazement.” Next Adam Holz explains how YouTube is a new pathway to fame and that our kids may want to pursue YouTube stardom as well. We talk about how to help our kids navigate this.
Then we talk with Adam about helping our kids avoid the pursuit of fame on YouTube but at the same time encourage them to post content that can make the world a better place. We also have a conversation about the dangers of our kids finding their identity in YouTube “likes” and how that dynamic is an opportunity to talk to them about finding identity in Jesus. And finally, this morning at about 3:30 Perry’s mom entered glory. Perry shares his heart about his mom, Barbara, who was the first to say “yes” to Jesus in his family.
