One of the hardest realities in life is that the deepest wounds often come from the people we trusted the most. In Psalm 41:9, the psalmist describes the pain of betrayal: “My own familiar friend, in whom I trusted… hath lifted up his heel against me.” The greatest trials are often the ones we never saw coming, relationships we believed were secure, circumstances we thought would never change. Yet even in those moments of deep hurt, the psalmist turns to God for mercy and strength, asking to be lifted up so he can keep moving forward. When people fail us and situations fall apart, we are reminded that our hope ultimately rests in God. We cannot control what others do, but we can trust that God is with us, strengthening us and ensuring that our enemies will not ultimately triumph over us.
