It began as a battle between Jerry Lawler and Tommy Rich. Rich had returned to Memphis pro wrestling and felt like he was slighted by Jerry The King Lawler. The two entered a violent feud. Soon, Austin Idol and Paul E. Dangerously (Paul Heyman) became involved and it lead to one of the most famous matches in Memphis wrestling history- a steel cage hair vs hair match. The ending of the match saw a near riot and this angle is as close to a perfectly told pro wrestling story as you will ever get.
In December 1982, Bullet Bob Armstrong turned against his friend Ron Fuller during a NWA World title match against Ric Flair setting off the feud that defined the Southeastern Championship Wrestling area. Bob Armstrong turned heel and battled the Tennessee Stud for months. Tragedy struck Bob Armstrong in the form of a weight lifting accident but Bob returned and begged forgiveness from Ron Fuller and offered to aid him in his fight against Arn Anderson and Jerry Stubbs. This is that story.
