Joseph Murphy, celebrated as one of Ireland's premier event riders, has a career rich with accomplishments and a reputation for his effortless cross-country style. Hailing from Mullingar, Co Westmeath, Murphy's initial foray into sports leaned towards Gaelic football, reflecting his family's strong sporting lineage. However, his equestrian journey began in earnest with his brother Ciaran, transitioning from local hunts to the broader eventing scene under the guidance of Danish event rider Dot Love. This early exposure laid the foundation for a career that saw Murphy ascend to the pinnacle of eventing, representing Ireland at the highest levels, including the Olympics, World, and European Championships, and consistently being named Eventing Ireland’s leading rider from 2012 to 2017​​​​​.

Now operating from Co Down in Northern Ireland, Murphy oversees a professional event yard, nurturing talent across a spectrum from pre-novice to advanced-level horses. Beyond competing, he extends his expertise as a Horse Sport Ireland Level 2 Coach, educating riders and horses alike across Ireland, the UK, and the USA. His significant achievements, such as his clear rounds at the London 2012 Olympics with Electric Cruise and his shortlist for Rio 2016, underscore his central role in Irish eventing on a global scale.
