August 16, 2024:  Use a binocular to see planet Uranus near the Pleiades before sunrise.

August 15-20:  Mars marches away from Jupiter after their conjunction on the 14th.  Look for them in the east-southeast before sunrise.

August 14, 20204: A Jupiter-Mars conjunction occurs in the eastern sky before sunrise.  The planets are only 0.3°

August 12, 2024:  The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks in the predawn hours this morning in North America.  Additionally, three planets and Sirius shine before sunrise. Venus gleams after sunset.

August 11-16, 2024:  The evening moon waxes into the gibbous phase, passing the First Quarter mark on the 12th.  The moon sets early enough to see the Perseid meteor shower peak.

August 5-10, 2024:  Saturn appears during the early evening hours during early-to-mid-August. The planet’s ring plane crossing occurs next year.

August 5-10, 2024:  Mars approaches Jupiter before their conjunction on August 14th.  Find them in the eastern sky before daybreak.

August 5-10, 2024:  The waxing crescent moon is visible in the western sky after sundown.  Early during the visibility, the lunar crescent is with Venus. Later it is near Spica.

August 4, 20204: A Mars-Aldebaran conjunction occurs as the Red Planet marches eastward in front of Taurus. Mars is rapidly overtaking Jupiter before sunrise.

August 3, 2024: Look for a 1%-illuminated moon at daybreak. Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn are visible in the morning, and Saturn in the evening sky.
