August 16: Jupiter and Saturn are visible during morning twilight before daybreak.  Venus races toward its first morning appearance in less than a week.

August 15, 2023: Bright Jupiter is in the southeast before sunrise.  Saturn nears opposition.  It is visible before sunrise and after sunset.

August 14, 2023: A very thin crescent moon shines below Pollux in the east-northeast during morning twilight.  The planet Uranus is visible through a binocular.

August 13, 2023:  The Perseid meteor shower peaks before twilight begins this morning.  Venus passes between Earth and Sun and into the morning sky.

August 12, 2023: A thin crescent moon appears near the foot of Gemini’s Castor foot and a star cluster.  This morning, Sirius makes its first appearance for sky watchers at Chicago’s latitude.

August 11, 2023: The crescent moon is with the horns of Taurus.  Bright Jupiter is easily seen in the eastern sky before sunup.

August 10, 2023: With a waning moon look for Perseid meteors before the beginning of morning twilight.  The morning crescent moon is near Aldebaran, Taurus’ brightest star.

August 9, 2023: The thick crescent moon is near the Pleiades star cluster before sunrise.  Use the moon again this morning as a guide to find planet Uranus.

August 8, 2023: Bright Jupiter and the Moon are visible during the morning before daybreak.  Jupiter’s moons and planet Uranus are visible through a binocular.
