Have you ever been so overwhelmed that you knew you needed to pray—but didn’t know what to say? Psalm 38 gives us a deeply personal glimpse into David’s heart as he wrestles with regret, physical and emotional turmoil, and the weight of his own sin. He cries out for mercy, asking God not to rebuke him in wrath, and by the end of the psalm his prayer is reduced to a simple plea: “Forsake me not… Make haste to help me.” Sometimes the most honest and powerful prayer we can offer is just one word—help. God does not require polished language or perfect expressions; He desires a heart that turns to Him in dependence. When you don’t know what to say, simply cry out to God, trust that He hears you, and rest in the promise that He is near to the brokenhearted.
