Who asked, no one. Who answered, we did. It's another Wes Anderson episode for you guys. That's right for our penultimate episode of our first season we are covering the 2021 film The French Dispatch (of the Liberty Kansas Evening Sun). Is a movie really pretentious enough if it doesnt have a much longer superfluous version of it's name? This week we will find out as Elizabeth and Alexandra put on their thinking caps as they desperately try and figure out what the hell is going on in this movie. We navigate a thicket of Wes Anderson aesthetic to finally answer the question we have all been asking for years: "is it good, or was it just directed by Wes Anderson?" But of course this is not a Wes Anderson podcast, so this week we also humbly offer you analysis of Saoirse's five second role in this film, and our usual refusal to pronounce "Timothée Chalamet" correctly.

We know what you are thinking, after 25 episodes of us saying "is this character queer coded?" we are finally getting an episode where Saoirse Ronan is playing an explicitly gay character! Elizabeth and Alexandra must be so excited, right? Guess again! Hop on board for another half hour of us talking about whether or not Kate Winslett is MILF material, the ethics of queering straight stories (especially since queer stories are so often straightened), and the effects of the male gaze on a story about two women in love.

We take you through the 2019 Academy Award winning movie about all our favorite things: friendship, family, and having the littlest feet in the family. This episode is for the Jo March girlies and the besties who insist upon coordinating their color schemes based on their corresponding sins. Settle in for another episode full of begrudgingly praising Greta Gerwig, refusing to pronounce Timothée Chalamet's name correctly, and pointing out that Saoirse Ronan's characters are "not like other girls."

Never did we think that the movie that would make us the most sad would also be our episode with the most sex jokes, but life is funny that way. This movie provoked many big feelings and big questions for us. Namely: Is Ian McEwan okay? Why are there so many feet in this movie? And, most importantly, is watching this movie more effective at promoting abstinence than abstinence-only education?
