Chris Halligan MCIAT, CEnv

Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), with a career spanning over three decades, Chris has been involved with a wide range of architectural projects. This experience covers leading teams from inception to completion across a variety of sectors including residential, educational, commercial, leisure and institutional spheres. As well as being adept at the technical and functional resolution of buildings, Chris also specialises in Sustainable Design with a particular interest in the use and performance of building materials in respect to the environment. In this capacity he is an accomplished public speaker, presenter, guest lecturer, and advisor.

Ian Pritchett BSc(hons)

A physics graduate from Durham University. From 1987 to 2007 Ian was Managing Director of IJP Building Conservation Ltd, one of the leading conservation contractors in the UK. IJP specialise in the repair of all kinds of historic buildings including windmills and water mills. 2002 to 2013. Ian’s growing awareness of environmental issues and belief that traditional materials have an important role in the future of mainstream construction lead to the formation of Lime Technology Ltd. (in 2002), a company dedicated to pushing the use of traditional lime mortars into the new build market, as an ecological alternative to cement, by the innovative use of modern methods. 2013 to date. In 2013 Ian left Lime Technology and set up Greencore Construction Ltd, now rebranded as Greencore Homes Ltd. Ian is currently Innovation Director. Greencore is pioneering low and zero-carbon houses using its own Biond building system. This is a closed panel timber frame system insulated with Lime-Hemp and natural fibre insulation. In January 2022 M&G became a shareholder and Greencore plans to build 10,000 “better than zero-carbon” homes by 2035.

Eddie is a frequent guest speaker at professional seminars and workshops regarding Architectural Technology and architecture. He also represents CIAT as an expert witness at Parliament Buildings at Stormont, when required. In November 2014, Eddie was a recipient of the prestigious CIAT Gold Award for his services to CIAT's Northern Ireland Region.

Simon Ashmore

Simon Ashmore is Architects Benevolent Society’s CEO. He joined ABS in January 2025 bringing six years’ experience in the sector gained at the Bank Workers Charity, where he led services, wellbeing, marketing, fundraising, and digital development. Prior to this Simon had a nine-year career at the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), the examining and professional body for GPs in the UK. There he held a number of commercial and professional development roles including Executive Director of GP Forward View. Simon previously worked at the Ifs School of Finance (now the London Institute of Banking and Finance) as the marketing lead. He is a former trustee of Electrical Safety First and non-executive director of Certsure.

Usman Yaqub FCIAT

Usman Yaqub PCIAT FCIAT has worked in the field of architecture and the built environment since 2007 and is a Fellow Member and recently inaugurated President of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT).  As the founder and principal of his own architectural practice, Usman has developed extensive experience across projects of all scales — from early feasibility studies and planning, through to detailed design and construction. 

With a career grounded in technical design and delivery, Usman is passionate about promoting the value of Architectural Technology (AT)  and the essential role Chartered Architectural Technologists and Technologists play in shaping a sustainable, innovative, and inclusive built environment.  This passion can also be found in Usman’s academic role as Associate Lecturer at the University of the West of England, where he is able mentor and guide the future talent of AT.

 As President of CIAT, Usman is honoured to represent and champion the discipline of Architectural Technology — advocating for its recognition, influence, and future direction within the wider built environment. In this role, Usman is committed to supporting members at every stage of their professional journey, strengthening collaboration across industry and education.
