    Year of our Lord 1283
In the light of the early dawn, Lady Fay traverses her parapet wall and waits with bow drawn taut. Only when she realizes the group of men who exit the Saxon rowboat are tonsured does she allow herself to breathe. She need not shoot another of King Alexander's suitors. At least not today. With a wicked grin, she lets go the bowstring, and the arrow makes a perfect arc to land directly in front of the one in the lead. She isn't so fond of priests, either.
Nicholas Bruce jumps when the barb lands within inches of his sandaled feet. The former queen of the Isle of Man is just as beautiful and deadly as he remembers. Suddenly, he is not so certain that this holy disguise will work. Surely she'll remember him, the bastard grandson of the mighty Earl of Annandale. But what choice does he have? If he wants to survive, he needs to bed her, and soon.

    History Mystery!
This book is seeped in history of the United States civil war. It was a tumultuous time and the author does a good job mixing the elements of history with some mystery involving President Lincoln. Like the time period, it has a more relaxed or slower paced feel but has many twists and turns along the way that keep it interesting. The main characters are written perfectly for that time period as most have moral values and put their faith in God. There is a "squeeky clean" budding romance that develops slow and I'm sure will develop more in book 2. And, the narration took me a while to adjust to....not sure why....maybe the accent....but by the end I thought she did a good job.
This book does end abruptly so be warned! If you don't enjoy cliffhangers you may want to wait until all the books are out for this series before you purchase. Unfortunately, now I have to wait for book #2 to be released before I find out what happens.
    good storyline
could have moved the story a little quicker, it made it pretty predictible, but still good read!
    Boring narrator
This might be a good story, but the narrator is so boring I just can't get past chapter 5. She sounds like a high school kid who is trying out for the job. She fails the class!

    Great
I am never disappointed when reading one of her books. The stories are interesting, and the caricatures are very real. The scenery is very unrealistic, and often makes me homesick. I love her books, and read a , lot of them.

    Voracious Reader
Really enjoyed this story of a young girl, working for a better life, so she can help her family. She is also helping to make a better life for the man who hired her to care for his baby.
    Four Stars
Enjoyed this book. I like historical books where the gals have some spunk.
Mail Order Bride: The Mail Order Nanny
This was entertaining as well as the unexpected events that took place in unexpected ways. The characters showed that love comes to those who have been waiting for the proposal as this girl did. Coming west to be a nanny hoping that her friend would miss her only to find out that he had moved on. A must read for those who enjoy historical western romance kindle books from Amazon at a special price and from a delightful author who keeps me wondering what next for the characters.

    Cheeky Bride
Although this was a good book I had a difficult time relating to the heroine (Jaime) in this story. I think she seemed a bit too "loose" for that time period. She did have some good qualities but they were over shadowed by her carousing personality. I did however like the hero, Luke. He was a big man with a heart of gold. The phrase "opposites attract" fits perfectly here.
Still, I'm really enjoying this series. These stories are basically clean.....meaning there are sex scenes but there is nothing explicit.
I truly enjoy the narration of J Scott Bennett. His cowboy style voice is perfect for this series.
I would like to thank the author, narrator, publisher for providing me this audiobook at no cost in exchange for my unbiased review courtesy of Audiobookboom.
    Had potential but flopped
This is the second book I've listened to by this author and narrator.
I am a fan of books with sustenance. I like a storyline to be written with thought and care to details. This book was just way too short and sped through to have the sustenance that, to me, makes a good book. There was barely a pause in a piece of the story before it speedily moved on. If you like a book thats "short and sweet" with no sustenance then you make like it, however, in my opinion, even without the sustenance of a good book, as a short story this was lacking.
The story had the "short" down, but even for a short story it was just so fast. Jamie is different than the other women in her town, who don't like her, and sees an ad Luke had placed for a mail order bride and bam she's on her way. As for the "sweet"... It wasn't there. More like "annoying." Jamie has a crappy personality that in a book where you have more detail and time to understand the character, it might be a personality you like. I couldn't take the ridiculousness and cut the book off at just under 2 hours into the story.
As far as the narrator J. Scott Bennett. In the previous book I enjoyed his narration, however this one was the polar opposite. Might have been because the story was so bad but idk. There were soooo many "aaaahhh" at the beginning of words. "Thats aaahhhh a lot to handle." Then add the long pauses. "She kissed his cheek and _____ sat down" SO many pauses. Now add the pauses with the aaahhh and you have "I'd like to _____ aaahhhh go with you" "I'd be _____ aaaahhhh a happy for you both". It just got so aggravating. And like I said, I really enjoyed his narration in the last book so I really think my issues might just be with the story. I would take a venture to listen to him again.
All in all this was a bust for me. I do NOT like leaving unpleasant reviews and rarely do so but I believe in being honest about how I feel. I was given this book specifically to review.

Interesting couple, can it be redeemed?
Had forgotten I liked this author. This is kind of a bridge book, a story that takes place at the same time as her previous novel, so I may go back and read it, to refresh the story. It's well written but the H/h are not always likeable. She fears becoming mentally deranged, as her mother was, he is beyond a rake, actually a gigolo of sorts. Since the story continues in the next book, I have to say there is very little to recommend this man as redeemable , though he's quite handsome and a skilled lover. Will be surprised if he is able to become likeable . Very troubled couple to love.
    Next!!!
Not to reveal the ending, the story did not end as anticipated, which is not a big deal when the characters and story is interesting, that said. The characters were somewhat boring, not interesting something was missing. I'm glad this was a short story because I only stayed till the end to fulfill my curiosity.
    INDECENTLY DONE
With sisters like Lucy and Delilah, no wonder Trestain abstained from women for seven years. Lucy had a plan and she was determined to succeed. Will one night be enough for her, for him? Thank you for an engaging story, Danny Scott.
    Great novella
Love the story of how Lucy seduced Roman, her love from childhood. You got a glimpse of the story from the first book in the series but now you know more details. Can't wait to read the next one to see how it goes for these two.
Well beyond the mundane regency romances.
Locke is a great, imaginative author who creates plots and characters that are not mundane. She goes well beyond any formula for an historical / fictional novel.

    Love story and suspense
    3.5 stars
Maria and Brockton Thornton have had a strong connection since their first meeting when she was still a very young child. It was a pretty cute meeting!
They have many years to wait and several obstacles that must be overcome before they can have any chance of a happily ever after ending.
Will they be able to thwart would be suitors and adoring females and dangerous relatives? How long will Maria hold onto her love for Brock? Or will he tire of her and all the trouble she causes?
I can see how some readers have a hard time with the age difference between these two characters, especially since it is written as if Brock is quite a bit more mature than his actual age and Maria is sometimes written to seem younger than she is. But if you realize they are only 6 years apart and the time period they are set in, it's actually more believable. At that time girls would have their debut season and oftentimes marry someone who could easily be 10+ years older than them, all in the name of titles and money and society standing.
This was a fun, even if it wasn't 100% believable, story. I'm reading my way through this author's books, this one was good but not my favorite so far.
Content: lots of kissing (Marcia is after all called the Queen of Kissing). Some very mild innuendoes. An attack and mild fighting. Not squeaky clean but still I'd consider it a clean read.
    Happy Reading!!!
Clean historical romance, great story, reminds me of a old time movie
Clean historical romance, all the elements of a period drama, evil villain, dashing hero, strong heroine, wrongful imprisonment, orphan, rescue, fancy ball, happy ending. I really enjoyed it. It was a sweet escape for an afternoon. I love when you can hate the villain, love the hero, learn something, and want to be like the heroine. While she was young and immature, she still had great faith and strength. I'd read it again.
    Extremely romantic
Typical to all Marcia Lynn McClure's works, this novella was outstanding. The hero and heroine are so beautiful inside and out they make your heart ache - literally! As one of the other reviewers mentioned, I thought the plot twist in the story was a bit weak if you're comparing it to an epic, 400 page historical romance, but that's not what this novella is. It's extremely romantic, it's beautiful, it makes your heart smile and your mind sigh with longing and yet also with satisfaction.

What made the experience of listening to Mail Order Bride: Frontier Sister the most enjoyable?
First off it is a short story that I can listen to on my way home from work.
Who was your favorite character and why?
sybal of course. Anyone who is willing to marry a stranger 2000 miles from her family is braver than me. Lucky her sister lives near by.
What about Brooke Taylors performance did you like?
Fantastic pairing of reader and story.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was cute. No extreme reactions on this end
    Any additional comments?

    Short Sweet story
--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This is the perfect length for a walk and sweet entertainment. Sibyl is off to Wyoming to meet her sister's brother-in-law, Adam. Her sister Fanny had been a mail-order bride and fell completely in love with ranch living and her new husband Ben. Sibyl was not so sure this was going to be the case for Adam and herself. After several days of bickering, Adam is off to a cattle drive and Sibyl has some time to adjust to her new life, still unsure of whether Adam is the man for her. Unfortunately, Adam is rushed home with a severely broken leg, and now Sibyl has to make some decisions. Should she stay and take care of him? Should she marry him? Should she go back to New York? You will have to give this a listen to find out!
Brooke Taylor has a sweet voice to give us a good midwestern performance. Each character is easily discernable and it is very easy on the ears.

    annoyingly stilted monotone narration.
although the story was entertaining enough the narration was so boring it was painful.
    Good, But
I enjoyed the story although I felt it was weak in places. The on going family feud when finally explained, I believe was told in the wrong place and was weak. The two main characters where strong, but at times their dialogue was also weak. The characters of Anne, Elizabeth could have been stronger and I feel could have played a stronger role. There are holes that I feel needed more work. But in saying this the story line was a good one.

Twenty years past, in 1757, a young Redcoat, Reginald Aubrey, stole a newborn boy - the lighter-skinned of Oneida twins - during the devastating fall of Fort William Henry and raised him as his own. No one connected to Reginald escaped unscathed from this crime. Not his adopted daughter, Anna. Not Stone Thrower, the Native American father determined to get his son back. Not Two Hawks, William's twin brother separated since birth, living in the shadow of his absence and hoping to build a future with Anna. Nor Lydia, who longs for Reginald to be free from his self-imposed emotional prison and embrace God's forgiveness - and her love.
Now William, whose identity has been shattered after discovering the truth of his birth, hides in the ranks of an increasingly aggressive British army. The Redcoats prepare to attack frontier New York, and the Continentals, aided by Oneida warriors including Two Hawks, rally to defend it.
As the Revolutionary War penetrates the Mohawk Valley, two families separated by culture, united by love and faith, must find a way to reclaim the son marching toward them in the ranks of their enemies.

    Wow!
What a story! Hope, redemption, forgiveness, sacrifice, salvation, true love, pain, sorrow, healing, new life... This moved me to tears more than once; tears of sorrow, tears of joy. It's not a "light" read, but if you want a book that will leave an impression on you and make you better for it, take a listen to this one. It's a long journey, but worth every mile!
A wonderful conclusion to the story.
This book picks up where "The Wood's Edge" left off, completing the story in a heart wrenching manner. "Creator has a plan".....
    Intense and penetrating
As always. Benton's story creates an emotional connection with all the main characters. The story is fascinatingly told. Even the battle details create mental understanding rather than chaotic excitement. However, unlike "the Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn", I will not be reading this one again. In spite of the need to resolve the story as it is read, it was disturbing to me, personally. The characters were a means of personalizing a horror in history.
