Even if you are not into poetry, read this

This is an account of a "mixed marriage" at the time when they were still against the law in many states. Ms. Banks tells, through her verses the many difficult times they encountered as a white woman and black man.

soul searing

These poems lay bare a harrowing journey filled with questions and heart ache. I can only say that I can only read one each day for one poem fills my day with reverberations and musings on the past and present, on the individual and society, on the price of individuality and the pain of loving whom you choose to love.

Timely commentary told through personal stories

Insightful, sad, telling, rich stories told in poetry of a relationship between people of different races. Dare I say that there is humor in this volume too? For those who are poetry fans and those just interested in relationships in the US in the 20th century and beyond. I would highly recommend this book for open minded people.

Insightful account of PCV experience

Enjoyed Uncle Mikeyâs account of his time in the Peace Corps. I found the book both entertaining and insightful. I highly recommend it. Gives the rest of us a feel for the PCV experience.

Dr. Baughanâs historic record and intimate reflections of Polynesian Island life on the newly formed nation (Western Samoa) as a Peace Corps volunteerâ depicts Americaâs lighter footprint on the world stage. His epistolic record and photos are a must read for anyone desiring a look at daily life in a tropical land beyond the edge of the end of the world. And âthe reader can indulge themselves in nearly edible descriptions. How many people can say they: speared poisonous fish at night, swam with sea turtles in hand-carved outriggers, planted taro in tropical rains, learned an exotic language (with the required profanity) or got to eat on a Russian trawler during the Cold War? Dr. Baughan clearly depicts all this, more, and at the same time discloses the slow transition of a good ole âSouthern boyâ to a worldly young man. A man ready to become a doctor.

Pisikoa is the Somoan word for âPeace Corpsâ. The book, available at the Elizabeth City Page After Page bookstore, is a nostalgic review and recollection of the time spent in the U.S. Peace Crops by a local Doctor of Optometry (Eye Doctor). The book is based on pictures he kept from that time and the diary he kept for the years 1978 through 1980. Samoa is in the South Pacific area, and as such for many American, conjures a mesmerizing image of the broadway play South Pacific, by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II . Because in March 2014, a scan revealed that I had now a metastasis from the previous cancer, but this time, it targeted the lower lobe of my left lung, measuring about eight centimeters. This revelation really had a massive impact on me. The doctors did not have an answer. It literally felt like the entire world was dropped on my shoulders. But inside, I felt that this new cancer was a result of the poor diet, stress, and my overall lifestyle. Thus I had to go through the process all over again, but this time, chemotherapies and multiples surgeries were on the way. People who are aware of the effects of chemotherapy would sympathize with me when I say it was the toughest time of my life. But you know what they say, adversity is a great teacher.

A good and touching story with great advices to be taken seriously. Sometimes it's important to know more about cancer and the way it affects us physically but moreover mentally. In fact the mental is your best weapon against it and you need to connect with it. The author describes in a very beautiful way the different state of minds she went through and I got to understand that, "thanks to the cancer" in a way she got to connect with her mind and body and listen more to what it needed. Live in the present and enjoy life the fullest is the best remedy. Great book

Clear, Concise and Compelling biography! A great light read.

I was really grateful to have read this biography of the great Lebron James! This clearly written, and thorough biography goes through James' life and career, from early childhood aspirations to realizing his dreams and soaring to stardom.

I found that one of the most refreshing aspects of this book in particular is that it did not shy away from the fact that Lebron has had to learn over time what it means to be a team player. Rather than putting him on a pedestal and ignoring the negative press, Bunker has painted a very real picture of a very real human being. This fact is exemplified when the author covers the story of Lebron James' three experiences at the Olympic games.

All in all, I found this to book to be well crafted, informative, and entertaining above all! I'm looking forward to reading this Author's other works!

Nice Light Read

Patrick Bunker's concise biography of Lebron James is a nice, light read that would resonate with sports fans of all ages. The reader is exposed to Lebron James in three main aspects of his life: high school, NBA, and the Olympics. Each section presents a different side to this famous basketball player.

It wouldn't be an "Inspirational Story" if Bunker didn't include some facet of James' life that people may find inspirational, and to me that part is James learning how to be a team player. Some people are not natural-born team players and Bunker is able to make the reader appreciate that fact.

Very enjoyable to read. Osmond's work (and play) is an entertaining, fun, well written, unique combination of astute (and humorous) personal observation and memoirs, drawing parallels of particular films and film characters to the related sport under his good natured microscope. Given how sport and entertainment are so much a part of our culture, and that it's always worthwhile to have a "different take" on something we may have taken for granted, this would be a fun read for both the sports enthusiast and the sports "widow".

In 1999 sportswriter Rick Reilly wrote an hilarious article in Sport illustrated called âOn a Wing and a Prayerâ in which he described a ride he endured in an F-14 fighter jet flown by the toughest guy he had ever met. This article was a non stop laugh because Reilly was not aware of what he was in for. Reilly wrote; If you are ever offered a like ride donât do it: âMove to Guam. Change your name. Fake your own death. Whatever you do, do not go. I know. The U.S. Navy invited me to try it. I was thrilled. I was pumped. I was toast!â

He was warned the night before to eat bananas for breakfast. Why? âBecause they taste the same going in and out!â Reilly was told as he strapped into the jet that there was a device to egress him in case of major trouble and that it would be so powerful it would knock him out as he egressed.

Then he described the flight itself as it roared around the sky faster than sound, upside down and round about at 6 Gâs. âI egressed the bananas. I egressed the pizza from the night before. And the lunch before that. I egressed a box of Milk Duds from the sixth Grade. I made Linda Blair look polite. Because of the Gâs I was egressing stuff that I did not even want to be egressed. I went through not one airsick bag but two. Biff (the pilot) said I passed out. Twice.

And on it went. I still smile and laugh at this parade of humor. That was a short article. Gordon Osmond, a former lawyer, playwright and current author, has just written a short book in roughly the same vein except the whole book is full of genuine laughs. More, Osmond is a gay guy writing about some very macho sports and yet heâs not only funny but even handed to all.

I think this short book (109 pages) is filled with wonderful asides and fun gossip. Sample.

A 'MEMOIR' BEFORE ITS TIME ???

This is an overview of the actual book âBare Bones.â Kind of like an abbreviated âCliff's Notesâ for the FULL book. It provides a potential reader enough information regarding the bookâs content to determine if we want to invest the extra money and time to actually buy and read the entire book. This is a supposed "Memoir" of 36 year old C&W performer Bobby Bones. While 'memoirs' are normally written by better-known, more successful talents, after their most productive years are behind them ... Bones may have jumped the gun. Fortunately this Instaread overview will give you enough information to determine if you are interested in hearing his "whole story." At .99 cents, this summary is a good value, which is one of the reasons I have personally found âInstareadâ to be a useful service.

Bobby Bones, the Show

This summary book deserves a 5 stars because the recap and analyses are simple enough to understand, which also gives off indications that Bobby Bones' "autobiography" should also be easy enough to read and understand. Indeed, the Writer's Style section reveals this point. And, halfway into the summary I was already realizing that this piece of writing and anything related to it was going to be about Bobby Bones and Bobby Bones alone; not even Bobby Estell, the guy's real name. This book is another ploy to reach the wider audience, to explain and reinforce the Bobby Bones' brand. Surely, if something similar comes out about a regular Joe, will anyone be interested in reading about his childhood with an alcoholic mother and an absentee father? How about his workaholism and lack of personal and romantic relationship? Perhaps, such story is interesting to readers in a form of fiction, or watchers in the form of a movie, not an autobiography of a regular Joe.

Why is this available on Amazon?

I have to say I'm extremely surprised by the fact that Amazon is selling anything written by this person. I've chosen to never watch any of the videos she posts on YouTube, but I was under the assumption that it's been well established by now that she's a very disturbed individual. I may be wrong, but I believe I've heard about Brent Spiner having a restraining order out against her. And I know for certain that I've heard him talk about how he feels sorry for her and hopes she has people in her life who are trying to help her. He said this at a Star Trek convention when someone else in the crowd asked if he was aware of the videos she posts. He also made similar comments about feeling bad for her when someone brought up the subject durring a Reddit AMA Brent did last August -which can be found somewhere in here:[...]

I really wish someone from Amazon would look at the comments people post once in a while, so that they'll realize it's inappropriate for them to be selling things like this. I don't know if Mr. Spiner could bring up a lawsuit against this woman for using his name and trying to sell these books as non-fiction; but I'm sure he would choose no to do so because he feels bad for her and understands that she's not well.

Poor Mr. Spiner

A majorly disturbing read.

Full-blown vaginal (and other??) yeast infections, extremely painful rheumatoid arthritis, menopause... Why wouldn't the 40 famous men want her. Though she admits that not one has ever met her.

And with her birthday this month, she'll be either 58 or 59. Well...

Let's just say that it's probably for the best that the "sex" is only in her head, I mean, in her brain to brain "happy times". I mean.

That yeast stuff, "candida", is easily transferable to men, you know , Gail. Don't forget to take your meds now.

Anyhow, a disturbing read.

it nevertheless tells it like it was

The author personalizes the struggles of the Holocaust as he experienced them in some ways that other professional historians have missed. Disturbing and anger-producing, it nevertheless tells it like it was. The facts are not new; the feelings conveyed are personal. It's a good read.

There was a lot of repetition in his writing...so bad that I wondered if my Kindle was messing up somehow - plus poor editing with grammar and spelling mistakes. Other than that, I learned some things about Auschwitz that I didn't know before and was amazed at this man's strength and survival.

A must read.

I wish young college students would read this. The suffering of these people was terrible. God Bless them all. Germany will always have to live with what they did.
