these terrible children! they are so mean! they deserved to get baked into bread! it rhymes, which is nice for figuring out pronunciation on some of the words i don't recognize. i don't know much german, but the illustrations tell a compelling story.

Childhood memories

Like most German children I read and loved this German Classic book almost 70years ago. It is amazing how familiar it still is. And besides one cannot beat the price; and even in color on my Kindle Fire! Nobody who went to grade school in Germany should pass up this jewel.

Delightfully subversive!

A cruel tale of two young sociopaths and the elaborate pranks they play upon unsuspecting townsfolk. Brilliant, timeless illustrations illuminate the fun. I love to read this aloud, even though I don't actually speak German.

I grew up with the stories of those two guys and purchased the book for my grandchildren who live in the US. Considering the price I expected a sturdy book which would survive some not so careful little fingers.

Good Moral But Story Could Have Been Better

It was okay. Though, the text was hard to read and they could have picked a better font. It seemed to be chosen because it looked "fancy" and with little thought in regards to the audience that the book is targeted to. Some kids struggle with reading and adding a layer of difficulty by making the text all weird doesn't help.

The premise of the story is good, although it is highly unlikely that someone would get sent to the principal for just pulling someone's hair. Again, I didn't really like how it was text on one page and then I'd have to scroll to the next to see the picture. I didn't think all of the pictures really fit the meaning of the text. For example, when Thomas gets in trouble for what Luther did, it looks as if he is smiling instead of worried or scared like the text implies. It's good to have pictures that go well with the text in order for kids to use a visual cueing system while reading. This book hinders the production and use of that cueing system, which, again, is a disservice to the audience they are targeting.

I think the moral of the story is good, but once again it has been done before and done better by other authors.

I chose this rating because it had everything a story needed and there was only one misspelled word. I loved there concept of the pollution being cleaned up and the people on earth should do the same for there "twins"

I liked the book. I though they could of had another couple chapters. I give 1/8..
